The mating urge cannot be denied...

#1 New York Times bestselling author Lora Leigh returns to the world of the Breeds where animal instincts can bring a feral pleasure to every man and his willing female mate...

Bad boy Jonas Wyatt's personal assistant, Rachel, has had a child—an innocent new life that has been put in grave danger because of Jonas' perilous games and calculations played in the shadow-world in which he lives: the dark and sensual world of the Breeds. Now, Rachel is making only one demand of Jonas: that he finally take responsibility and deliver on the protection that only he can give.

Jonas has known for a long time that it is destiny that Rachel become his mate. He can sense it. He can also sense her reluctance. And for that, he refuses to claim her. He wants her on love alone and not because of the urge of the mating heat. But it is Jonas' destiny to claim her. And he will have his way.

This is the long awaited story of Jonas Wyatt. Jonas has been a prominent character from the beginning. He’s a manipulative bastard that will do anything necessary to protect the Breeds. For years he has moved people as if they were chess pieces, doing what he deemed necessary for the safety of the Breeds. Jonas also manipulates people for the sake of manipulation. The matings that have happened due to his manipulation is staggering. His arrogance even more so. He’s met his match in Rachel.

Rachel was an awesome heroine. I loved her. The best part of this book was that Rachel wasn’t a slave to the mating urge. Rachel knows who the Breeds are when she takes a position as Jonas’ assistant. She immediately feels desire for the Lion Breed, but she is able to hide her arousal. That’s almost unthinkable in it of itself. Especially hiding it from Jonas.

Rachel was pregnant when she started working for Jonas. Unbeknownst to her, Jonas has bonded with the fetus. He can sense what she is feeling, he knows when she’s upset, he knows everything. He’s the all mighty Jonas Wyatt. That’s where that pesky old arrogance thing comes in. Jonas is so sure of himself and his ability to protect Rachel that he doesn’t even consider the fact that Rachel and the newly born Amber could be used as pawns against him. Honestly, if he wasn’t so damn smexy I might just hate him for the arrogance factor alone.

Working for Jonas has taught Rachel a lot. First and foremost is that Jonas plays with people like they’re his personal toys. When Amber is threatened because of Jonas, she is furious. It has always been her fear that her daughter would get caught up in the tangled web that Jonas has woven.

What got me thinking was that if Rachel was so worried about Amber’s safety, why didn’t she try to leave? Not like he would let (only in a LL book can I type this without the feminist in me roaring her disapproval) her leave.

So for a short time that the eeee-vil people had Amber, they injected her with something. The doctors can’t isolate exactly what it is which makes Rachel (and thus Jonas) crazy. Rachel is still clueless (which is rather ridiculous at this point) about Jonas’s bond to baby Amber. How I explain it in my head is that Rachel has to use so much energy masking her arousal and attraction to Jonas that she’s totally clueless when it comes to anything else.

If you like Lora Leigh (and I love her), you will love Lion’s Heat. It has every LL element imaginable: penis barb, that mating taste that is cinnamon and spice and everything nice, traitors, Cassie, etc. I’ve read this series since its inception at Ellora’s Cave. Like the good fangirl I am, I followed her when she went to Berkley with Megan’s Mark. I can honestly say that since she went to Berkley, each book released is better than the last.

  1. I agree with your thoughts on Lion’s Heat. I love that Rachel was able to ignore the mating heat and how Jonas prolonged their union as long as he could. I actually like Jonas’ arrogance; his possessiveness of Rachel is hot and how accepting he is of Amber really endears him to me.

For me too, the book gets better with each release.

I hope we get a story on Dane soon, and Cassie, and Dr. Ely. Lol!

  2. lol I refuse to read the review because I can’t stand even a hint of spoiler :X
But – I so want to read this book.
    And… O_O book 21? First thought was “Holy Sh*t!”

  3. have not read the review either because this is in my pile next to my bed, but I looked at your number score and am glad that you liked it. 🙂

I just finished it and absolutely loved it! You know how there’s always talk about whether or not these highly anticipated hero books will be good–well, this one completely met my expectations.

Jonas was so awesome–arrogant, hot, protective, and not manipulative where his mate was concerned. Rachel was perfect for him. I loved how she went at Ely, saying that Jonas was hers and that Ely should find her own mate.

No big mis, just two fated people falling in love with each other. Mm, good stuff.
