Broken (Berkley Sensation)
Kris’ review of Broken by Shiloh Walker.

Quinn Rafferty is working as a bounty hunter for a private detective agency in St. Louis when a new neighbor catches his eye. He’s drawn to her-but he has his own soul to mend before he can worry about anyone else.

Sarah McElyea is on the run, but not for the usual reasons a woman goes on the lam. She has a plan for her future. And as much as she finds herself attracted to her gruff, tough neighbor, she can’t risk telling him the secrets she’s hiding.

But Quinn must get closer to Sarah when she turns out to be the target of his new missing persons case, and both Quinn and Sarah will have to expose their true feelings-as well as their fragile hearts-if their love is to survive.

I really enjoyed this book. This is a sequel to Fragile which I also loved.  Ms Walker does not always work for me, i cannot get into the Hunters series but there are a few of her contemporaries that I really love.  This story had a nice, hot romance, a bad guy and mysterious pasts all around, works for me.

Quinn is the twin brother of the hero in Fragile.  He had a crappy childhood (it seems most of the best heroes do) with a druggie mother and has a chip on his shoulder because of it.  He does get better though.  He figures he has enough of his own issues that he does not need to add more to them so he steers clear of any kind of relationship.
We do not know a lot about Sara, only that she is running from some guy and she seems to be a very strong personality.  I like that I did not know her whole story, it kept me guessing throughout the book.
These two end up in the same building and have amazing chemistry.  They both have pasts they are dealing with so are reluctant to start anything with someone but are just drawn to each other.  Quinn knows something is wrong but cannot get Sara to share.  And Sara does not want Quinn burdened by her problems.
This was a great book.  Loved the storyline, it had a lot of unique points that made it different from your typical woman running from bad man and meets nice man who tries to slay all her dragons for her.  Loved that it was different.  Sara was a great heroine, no TSTL moments that are in many of those storylines.
Definitely recommend this one.
I give it is a 4.5 out of 5.
