Rowena’s review of Betrayed by P.C. and Kristin Cast.

Fledgling vampyre Zoey Redbird has managed to settle in at the House of Night. She’s come to terms with the vast powers the vampyre goddess, Nyx, has given her, and is getting a handle on being the new Leader of the Dark Daughters. Best of all, Zoey finally feels like she belongs–like she really fits in. She actually has a boyfriend…or two. Then the unthinkable happens: Human teenagers are being killed, and all the evidence points to the House of Night. While danger stalks the humans from Zoey’s old life, she begins to realize that the very powers that make her so unique might also threaten those she loves. Then, when she needs her new friends the most, death strikes the House of Night, and Zoey must find the courage to face a betrayal that could break her heart, her soul, and jeopardize the very fabric of her world.

This is the second book in the House of Night series by P.C. and Kristin Cast. It did it’s job which was to keep me interested and at the edge of my seat. I really enjoyed this book. From the beginning to the end, there was so much going on that I zipped right through this book. A really great follow up novel to the first book, Marked.

In this book, a month has passed since Zoey was first Marked and moved to House of Night. She’s learning her way around House of Night, finding out that she’s got these new powers and she’s stepping into new roles at the school. She’s becoming quite the little leader at House of Night and with the responsibility, there comes lots of drama.

On top of taking over Dark Daughters, she’s juggling some boys as well. There’s her ex human boyfriend, Heath then there’s Erik Night, the hottest boy at school and there’s just so much drama involved with that one. Imprinting with your human boyfriend is a big no no in the vampyre world and yet, Zoey can’t seem to stop. It’s in this book where she hits full on Hoey Zoey status but I didn’t hate her.

I like Zoey. I really do but she can do some really hoey things and I know that not every author could have pulled off me liking the characters anyway but the Cast duo totally made it work. I really enjoyed this book and after reading this book, I immediately started reading the next book, Chosen. One of the things that I loved about this book was the bond that formed between Zoey and her friends. Their bond is strengthened in this book and it’s one of my favorite things in this book. Stevie Rae was the bomb, Damien and the Twins were awesome and really, I just loved their little group.

I also loved the hell out of Erik. Right now, I’m totally Team Erik. Love him but I also really like Heath. Erik is just too effing sweet and is such a good fit with Zoey. I’m anxious to see more with these two.

This is one of those series that you can’t put down. The kind of series that makes you want to stay up until the late hours of the night reading. Fans of Marked will definitely like this book and I definitely recommend this book to anyone who wants a great and exciting series to follow.

  1. I still love that name, Hoey Zoey. LOL And yeah, the Casts do a good job with the guys. 😛 I’m a selfish ho and want them all, so I don’t blame Zoey for not being able to say no. hahaha

  2. Oh, I’m not actually reading this. It’s just that I let my 13yo read them and if there’s a lot of guy hopping that could be..not good.

    Ames,

Hoey Zoey is here to stay from what I can tell. I mean, you were right. It’s Book 5 and she’s still hoin’ it up…goodness! I don’t hate Erik either, my cousin does but not me. I heart him but man, I like all of the other guys…I must be Hoey Wena.

    Debbie,

I keep in mind that Zoey’s only 16 and she’s not as mature as someone older than her so her hoeyness doesn’t bother me as much.

    Holly,

Yeah, about that…it’s nothing like bad or anything, TG is good.
