Monthly Reads: December 2009

Posted January 11, 2010 by Holly in Features | 11 Comments

Holly: December was a strange reading month for me. The bulk of my reading was made up of re-reads, since I started re-reading the In Death series by J.D. Robb thanks to Lori and Christine, and my Julie Garwood novels thanks to our Author Spotlight. 90% of the new books I picked up this month I set aside.

I managed to read 13 books this month, but 9 of them were re-reads.

Must Love Mistletoe by Christie Ridgeway 4.75 out of 5
Rapture in Death by J.D. Robb (re-read) 4/5
Breakfast in Bed by Robin Kaye 3/5
Castles by Julie Garwood (re-read) 3/5
The Lion’s Lady by Julie Garwood (re-read) 4.75/5
The Lost anthology w/ J.D. Robb, Patricia Gaffney, Mary Blayney and Ruth Langan 3.5/5
Honor’s Splendour by Julie Garwood (re-read) 4.75/5
Immortal in Death by J.D. Robb (re-read) 4.5/5
If He’s Sinful by Hannah Howell 3.75/5
Ransom by Julie Garwood 3.25/5
The Secret by Julie Garwood (re-read) 4.5/5
Saving Grace by Julie Garwood (re-read) 4.75/5
Glory in Death by J.D. Robb (re-read) 4.25/5

Not bad overall. My favorite read of the month was Must Love Mistletoe by Christie Ridgway. My least favorite read was Breakfast in Bed by Robin Kaye.

Rowena: For me, December wasn’t a very good month either. I mean, I had a much better reading month in December than I did in November but mostly I just re-read my Julie Garwood books and called it a day with those. Like Holly, I went through a phase at the end of the month where I was picking up and putting books back because I just wasn’t that into them. It had nothing to do with the books themselves but my mood. It was strange but there you go.

Here’s my list of books that I read over the month of December.

Castles by Julie Garwood (4.75 out of 5)
Temptation by Leda Swann (DNF)
The Summoning by Kelley Armstrong (4 out of 5)
Prince Charming by Julie Garwood (4.75 out of 5)
The Bride by Julie Garwood (4.75 out of 5)
Getting Lucky by Carolyn Brown (1.75 out of 5)
Dark Side of Dawn by Kathryn Smith (DNF)
Haunting Beauty by Erin Quinn (3.75 out of 5)
The Wedding by Julie Garwood (4.75 out of 5)

:

December is always a bad reading month for me. If I am able to actually find a few minutes to sit down, my mind wanders to everything that still needs to be done.

Hard to Hold by Stephanie Tyler (4/5)
Hidden Fire by Jo Davis (4.5/5)
No Limits by Alison Kent (3/5)
Waking the Dead by Kylie Brant (4/5)
Broken by Shiloh Walker (4/5)
Atlantis Redeemed by Alyssa Day (4/5)
Forbidden Falls by Robyn Carr (3.75/5)
Ransom by Julie Garwood (5/5)
For the Roses by Julie Garwood (4.75/5)
The Lion’s Lady by Julie Garwood (5/5)
Guardian Angel by Julie Garwood (4.5/5)
The Gift by Julie Garwood (4.25/5)
Shattered by Joan Johnston (1/5)

This month we’re giving away:

Must Love Mistletoe by Christie Ridgway
The Summoning by Kelley Armstrong
Hidden Fire by Jo Davis

If you want to be entered to win, leave a comment on this post telling us what your favorite – and least favorite – reads of the month were. Also, be sure to tell us what book you’re interested in reading. You can put your name in for more than one book, but you’ll only be allowed to win one, so choose wisely.

So…what was your favorite read of the month? And your least favorite?

  1. SEP – Least fav – What I did For Love – hated the h/h and there was not much of a storyline. Couldnt even finish it and I love most of Susan’s book, so it was a real disappointment.

Favorites were All the Virgin River books by Robyn Carr – cannot pick just one and in site of the reviews here I love Robin Kaye’s books.

  2. I had a Sarah Mayberry Christmas – I read 5 of her books over my holidays and I read the Alison Richardson Countess Trilogy (spice briefs x 3) the other day. I listened to An Echo in the Bone by Diana Gabaldon also.

Favourite read would be the Mayberry “Daytime Divas” trilogy – they were all good but I liked Mac & Grace’s story – All Over You – best I think.

Please put me down for Must Love Mistletoe by Christie Ridgway – she’s become a go-to author for me and I haven’t read this one yet.

    thx ladies.

  3. Chelsea B.

My pick would be The Summoning by Kelley Armstrong. I’ve heard allot of good things about this series!

My favorite read was Beauty by Robin McKinley. Least favorite….Actually, I didn’t have a least favorite!

  4. I really like to read The Summoning by Kelley Armstrong. coz i heard a lot about this book, but still don’t have one of her books yet !

    My Favorites will be :

    – THe House on Tradd Street by Karen White

    – The Captive of Sin by Anna Campbell

  5. Great reads!I always have a soft spot for Castles since it was my first Garwood book and got me hooked but The Wedding, Ransom, Saving Grace and The Secret are some of my favorites. For some reason The Lion’s Lady and Prince Charming just didn’t grab me.

  6. My favorite read of the month was Ten Big Ones by Janet Evanovich, Lula just cracks my ass up. My least favorite was Dying Scream by Mary Burton. The heroine was not very likable. I couldn’t figure out what the hero saw in her.

  7. I didn’t get to read a lot but I did enjoy what I did read. I read the first two book in Kylie Brant’s new romantic suspense series and liked them a lot. I have to remember to pick up the third book in the series. I would love to win Hidden Fire by Jo Davis since I haven’t read any of her books but they look good.

  8. Jane

My favorite read of the month was Lori Brighton’s “Wild Heart.” I would like to be entered to win either “Hidden Fire” or “Must Love Mistletoe.”
