Monthly Reads: November 2009

Posted December 3, 2009 by Holly in Features | 19 Comments

November started out terribly for me reading-wise. I fell into a nasty slump and didn’t read anything for weeks. I’d pick up books and then set them aside, uninterested. Luckily about halfway through the month I kicked my slump to the curb and made up for it.

I managed to read 13 books this month. That’s pretty great considering I had only read 2 by the 12th of the month. Even more amazing is that I managed to review so many of them. That has to be some kind of record for me.

Bending the Rules by Susan Andersen 4/5
Kindred in Death by J.D. Robb 3.75/5
Baby, Don’t Go by Susan Andersen (re-read) 4/5
Double Play by Jill Shalvis 4/5
Take Me for A Ride by Karen Kendall 1/5
Heart Dance by Robin D. Owens 3.5/5
Mistress by Mistake by Susan Gee Heino 3.5/5
Wickedly Ever After by Michelle Marcos 3.25/5
Something About You by Julie James 4.5/5
MacGowan’s Ghost by Cindy Miles 3.75/5
The Care and Feeding of Unmarried Men by Christie Ridgway 4/5
Just the Sexiest Man Alive by Julie James (re-read) 4.5/5
Naked in Death by J.D. Robb (re-read) 4.5/5

My favorite reads of the month were probably Double Play by Jill Shalvis and Something About You by Julie James. Honorable mentions go to Bending the Rules by Susan Andersen and The Care and Feeding of Unmarried Men by Christie Ridgway. My least favorite read of the month was Take Me for a Ride by Karen Kendall. I don’t know what to say about that book except it sucked.

Casee:

I don’t know if it’s the time of year, but this is the second month in a row that reading hasn’t been high on my priority list. There were several books out in November that I was looking forward to reading, but I wasn’t getting excited about them. Like Holly, my month started out rather dismal. It did get better, but it still wasn’t that great. I had a lot of re-reads this month. My total including re-reads was 14.

Soul Magic by Jennifer Lyon (4.25/5)
Kiss of a Demon by Kresley Cole and Gena Showalter (4 out of 5)
To Desire a Devil by Elizabeth Hoyt (4 out of 5)
On Thin Ice by Susan Andersen (4.5/5)
Exposure by Susan Andersen (5/5)
Obsessed by Susan Andersen (4/5)
Present Danger by Susan Andersen (4.25/5)
Never Love a Lawman by Jo Goodman (4.5/5)
Shadow Dance by Susan Andersen (4.75/5)
Untraceable by Laura Griffin (4/5)
Thread of Fear by Laura Griffin (4.25/5)
Whisper of Warning by Laura Griffin (4.25/5)
Stolen Heat by Elisabeth Naughton (4.5/5)
Hot as Sin by Bella Andre (DNF)

My favorite book of the month was Stolen Heat by Elisabeth Naughton. Honorable mentions go to Never Love a Lawman by Jo Goodman and Soul Magic by Jennifer Lyon. Here’s to hoping (yet again) that my reading (and reviewing) improves in the month of December.

Rowena:

I’m with Casee in that I’m not sure what happened to me this past month but I couldn’t finish a book to save my life. I mean, I did finish a few but not very many. Here’s what I read this month:

The Secret of Joy by Melissa Senate (4.5 out of 5)
Evermore by Alyson Noel (2.75 out of 5)
The Wildest Heart by Rosemary Rogers (2.5 out of 5)
Crash Into Me by Jill Sorenson (4.75 out of 5)
Remember When by Judith McNaught (4 out of 5)
For Your Arms Only by Caroline Linden

Yeah, I pretty much sucked last month but I blame it on the reading slump. My favorite read of the month was between The Secret of Joy by Melissa Senate and Crash Into Me by Jill Sorenson. I’m going to be giving away a copy of Crash Into Me by Jill Sorenson.

This month we’re going to giveaway:

Crash Into Me by Jill Sorenson
Mistress by Mistake by Susan Gee Heino
Stolen Heat by Elisabeth Naughton

If you want to be entered to win, leave a comment on this post telling us what your favorite – and least favorite – reads of the month were. Also, be sure to tell us what book you’re interested in reading. You can put your name in for more than one book, but you’ll only be allowed to win one, so choose wisely. Contest will end Monday, December 14 at 11:59 p.m..

So…what was your favorite read of the month? And your least favorite?

  1. I’ve been hearing alot about Stolen Heat, sounds good! My favorite read last month was Skin Game by Ava Gray, it was fantastic!

  2. Chelsea B.

My favorite read of the month was Deep Kiss of Winter by Kresley Cole and Gena Showalter, and my least favorite….Well, there actually wasn’t one I didn’t like, but if I had to pick I guess it would be Winter’s Heat by Dawn Holiday in A Highlander Christmas. It was a good story, but felt like it was missing something….And I’d like to put my name in for ‘Stolen Heat’ by Elisabeth Naughton 🙂

I loved Dogs and Goddesses by Crusie, Stuart and… uh… the other one. [blush] I’ve been in the mood for light and funny lately and it really delivered. Not perhaps the worst book, but I think my biggest disappointment of the month was Wed Him Before You Bed Him by Sabrina Jeffries. So much build-up to pretty much nothin;. 🙁

I’m not familiar with the giveaway authors, so if I should win, pick one for me please. — willaful

  4. I only read one book this month and I loved it! It was called Picking Cotton by Jennifer Thompson-Cannino and Ronald Cotton.
I would love to be entered in your draw. Thanks.

And least favorite… er, can’t remember, but there were a number of books I put down :X They weren’t worth remembering >.<

  12. I did not finish a lot of books in December but I think my favorite was Bed of Roses by Nora Roberts. I would love to win any of the books listed.

  13. I’d love a copy of Stolen Fury! I’m a little behind in my reading. I just finished Ann Aguirre’s Grimspace and loved it! I also recently read Jessica Andersen’s Nightkeepers, which I also loved! Least favorite…you know, I haven’t read any bad ones. Usually what I do read is recommended by other romance readers so I don’t read I book I don’t like very often, luckily 🙂

This was a pretty sad month for me – book-wise. I really enjoyed Bed of Roses by Nora Roberts and read the latest in Death book. It was a good addition to the series but the murder was so brutal and sad. Don’t think I’ll be re-reading it any time soon.

I’ve also started a re-read of Susan Napier Presents. She’s a really good author with a great backlist.

A dud for me was Ice by Linda Howard. What’s happened to this author?!

I would love to win Crash into Me by Jill Sorenson. Thanks!!

  16. My favorite read of the month: Julie James’s JUST THE SEXIEST MAN ALIVE. I had a smile ob my face for days, it was such a funny, fun read!

    Least favorite:
ICE BLUE by Anne Stuart, it wasn’t bad just didn’t live up to my expectations.

I’d like STOLEN HEAT if I get chosen. thanks
