I just finished reading this book…for the first time.

I know, surprised much? I don’t even know why it took me so long to read this book because I bought this book the weekend that it came out so it’s been QUITE a long while since it’s been sitting on my bookshelf. I started reading this because of the author spotlight and obviously I missed the deadline but still, this was a great book. I didn’t think I’d enjoy the book quite as much as I did because I kept putting this book down for some strange reason. I don’t even know why I kept putting it down but the first four times that I picked this book, I read a chapter and then promptly moved onto another book. It wasn’t until I forced myself to sit down and actually concentrate on what I was reading that I finally buckled down and read. It was during this time that I kicked myself a few times because it was such a good read. It wasn’t a perfect read but it was still a rather entertaining read.

Kev Merripen is the Rom that the Hathaways have taken into their household. He’s not necessarily a servant but he makes sure to not be apart of the family but Merripen is in love with Winnifred Hathaway and has been for years. She owns his heart but he won’t let himself be with her because he’s convinced that he will never be worthy of her, that she is way too good for him and should be with someone better. He pushes her away and keeps right on pushing even though Win is very much interested in being with him…like that. Win is the sickly one in the Hathaway, she’s the one that has had all of the illness problems in the series so far and this is the book where she finally gets better. She goes to a clinic in France and she gets the help that she needs to kick this illness to the curb and she finally gets that done and returns home.

She returns home to her family and even though she’s sworn that she was going to try to forget about Merripen because he’s obviously forgotten about her since he’s never returned any of her letters and she’s through playing the lovesick lady so she, well she nothing because as soon as she gets home, all she can think about is Kev so trying to get over Kev is not in the cards. But then Kev makes it hard for her to go after him when he keeps rejecting her and confusing her so finally she decides that she is going to throw herself into getting over her and that’s when things got interesting.

I really enjoyed the Hathaway family in this book. It was great to see Cam and Amelia together and in love. To see their happy ending still playing out was a treat that I totally ate up. It was also great to see the others again and it’s got me all jazzed up for the next book and then of course, LEO’S BOOK! The sparks flying between Leo and the governess had me raising my brows so I’m definitely interested in more between those two.

What I loved about this book was finding out the big secret of the tattoos. I’ve been interested in the story behind those tattoos since I read Cam’s book and I was happy with the outcome of that whole thing.

The scenes between Kev and Win were great as I had no doubt they would be. Lisa Kleypas is a master at sucking her readers into her stories and she did a fantastic job with this book. Win was the heroine I knew she was going to be and I couldn’t have been happier with her character. I loved how she was so open and honest about her feelings for Kev. I love how she was unafraid of anything but his feelings for her.

But while I understood how Kev felt and why he was the way that he was, there were times that I wanted to shake him and loosen him up. Each time he pushed Win away, I’d shake my head but in the way they got together was a definite delight and it made the story zip right by. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who wants to keep the party going after the beauty that was Cam and Amelia’s story.

I’m excited for the rest of the series now, really.
