Tracy‘s review of Atlantis Unmasked (Warriors of Poseidon, Book 4) by Alyssa Day

A warrior scarred…Alexios survived two years of unspeakable torture at the hands of a vampire goddess. Now he’s been ordered to team up with a beautiful warrior and take on the most dangerous mission of his life: to retrieve the Vampire’s Bane. Without it, Atlantis can’t ascend to the surface and take its rightful place in the world. But when evil threatens, will Alexios be led by duty—or his heart?

A descendant of Diana…Grace is part of the rebellion against the vampires and shape-shifters trying to take over her world. She is deadly with her bow, because when she takes aim, she never misses her target. But suddenly she’s focused on a damaged Atlantean warrior who sees her as a weapon, not as a woman. When thousands of lives are on the line, will passion overrule, or will her aim still be true?

Grace is a fierce and independent woman. She’s a descendant of Diana and she seeking revenge on the vamps for killing her brother. The last thing she needs is some gorgeous warrior getting in her way and being protective.

For Alexios, Grace is it, she’s beautiful and an amazing warrior. But Alexios, after being captured and tortured by the vamp goddess, Anubisa, doubt himself. Can he be gentle and not have a horrible side to himself, that he definitely believes exists, rear its ugly head? At first he decides that avoidance of Grace is the key. But soon that’s no longer an option and he’s forced to be with her while training recruits for the rebellion.

When neither of them can deny the other any longer they decide that it’s better to just get it out of their system. Well, anyone who reads romance knows that never quite works out like the h/h plan and they end up falling in love.

I definitely enjoyed this book more than the last. Alexios and Grace were fun characters to read about and it showed more about the rebellion against the vamps (that are trying to take over the world) that was shown to us in the first few books. The book also integrated some appearances by characters from past books which was nice to see.

One thing I really was appreciative of was the answer to the question that’s been driving me bonkers since book 1. All of these Atlantean warriors are hundreds of years old. It seemed in most of the stories someone would bring up the age issue…you know – me human, you Atlantean – how the heck are we gonna do this? The human/non-human question was always raised but never answered and I was beginning to think that it wasn’t going to be but it was – thank heavens! Lol

Besides a little bit too much sappiness towards the end of the book it was a pretty good read.

Rating: 3.5 out of 5

  1. Tracy, I’m still attempting to start this series. I have the first book on my Kindle ready to go. *sigh* Sooo many books… right? Nice to see you’re still enjoying it at #4. 🙂

  2. I didn’t LOVE the first book but it was a good set up for the series. I think the author did a nice job of getting us interested in the characters so that we would want to know their stories as well. 🙂
