Author Spotlight: Favorie Secondary Characters.

Characters are so important in my reading. A storyline that is lacking in just about everything else can still be a total hit for me as long as the characters are charming, I can connect with them and they draw me in. Whether it’s a villain who is driving me insane and yet still captivates me or a heroine who is going through the pits and nothing seems to go right for her. If I can connect with her then I will continue to read the book and I will probably end up remembering the book. I don’t seem to have a problem with forgetting the heroes in any book to be honest. =P

The books that I can’t remember are usually books with characters that I didn’t feel as if I knew much about. If I didn’t develop a connection with the characters than odds are, I don’t remember them.

Lisa Kleypas writes fantastic characters. Whether they’re featured in her historicals or her contemporaries, her characters have certainly stood out to me.

Some of my favorite secondary characters are Emma Stokehurts from Midnight Angel, Jack Travis in Blue Eyed Devil and Rosie from Where Dreams Begin. That’s really just to name a few but I really enjoyed all of these characters for different reasons. I loved seeing Emma grow into the young woman she was at the end of Midnight Angel, I loved seeing the caring side of Jack in Blue Eyed Devil and I just flat out loved Rosie from Where Dreams Begin. They were all such fantastic characters that certainly drove the story home for me in each of the books that they were in. They all added something different to the mix and made the story in which they were featured so much better.

So what about you guys? What secondary characters stand out to you guys and what are some of your favorite LK secondary characters and why?

  1. Cam, Cam, Cam !! I loved him in the Devil in Winter. Loved him so much btw, that I was a bit disappointed by his own story (too much anticipation can kill a story really). He’s my favorite LK ‘s secondary character by FAR 😉

  2. Jennifer M.

Cam Rohan, Ross Cannon, St. Vincent, Derek Craven.

I notice a trend…LK’s best secondary characters eventually become HOT leading charcters, LOL!

  3. I like how well LK does characters of different generations — the kid and the older couple in Sugar Daddy were good, I remember. I haven’t read all that many of her books, but I do like the way she does family.

My vote goes to Jack Travis (BED), David de Abyndon, a secondary character in Madeline Hunter’s Stealing Heaven, who got his own story in By Arrangement, which is still a fave to this day, and …
Leopold, Duke of Villiers in Eloisa James’ Desperate Duchesses, the lead in A Duke of Her Own.

Dude, how could I forget about Cam? In my defense I’m in the midst of reading the books for the characters that I mentioned so that’s why.

Devil in Winter isn’t my favorite book but man, Cam was my favorite part of that book!

    Good choice ladies!

  6. Nick Gentry, Bow Street Runner, is another of my favorite Kleypas guys, Worth Any Price, who we first meet in Lady Sophia’s Lover.
Came from the slums, tortured by a secret from his past, who, like Derek, needs to feel worthy of love.
