Rowena’s review of Lux’s Practical Erotica Adventures by Lisa Beth Kovetz.

Grade: 4.5 out of 5

A hysterically funny tale of Lux’s hot pursuit of the 3 R’s: relationships, real estate, and erotica

Welcome to the New York City of the Tuesday Erotica Club, in which four women from different worlds get together once a week to read their erotic fantasies and share their latest real-life adventures in sex, finance, and friendship.

Lux Fitzgerald grew up in a family more affected by incarceration rates than interest rates. But she’s determined to blaze her own trail, and has gone deeply into debt to buy a neglected mansion to jump start her real estate empire. Surrounded by an old flame restoring the house, a hoodlum mortgage broker, and a gorgeous neighborhood fireman, Lux is destined to either drown in debt or catch fire with opportunities.

Lux isn’t the only club member who’s in over her head, but these women stick together in times of trouble— and anyone standing in their way better watch out. This is a wild, laugh-out-loud story about women who mean business.

I had hoped that this book was good. I’ve never read anything by this author and truth be told, I had never even heard of this author before I picked up this book but boy am I glad that I know who she is now and I’m so frickin’ happy that I read this book. I thought this book would be really funny and I’m happy to report that I wasn’t wrong.

From the very first sentence in this book to the last sentence of this book, I was laughing. There were plenty of times when I laughed out loud and had to quiet myself down because I was at work. I enjoyed this book so much that I zipped right through it. It was such an enjoyable little roller coaster and Lux was my favorite kind of heroine. The kind that thought she could do everything herself and kind of bumbled her way through her problems, not knowing what the heck she was doing but hoping for the best anyway. She made mistake after mistake but she never gave up and I respected her for it.

My favorite part of this book was the Tuesday Erotica Club. Those four ladies were facking hilarious and what I liked most about them was that they were so …normal. Those are the characters that I love. The ones that I could see myself hanging out with in real life. Lux was definitely someone that I could have grown up with. She reminded me of one of the crazy girls in high school that dyed her hair crazy shades of the rainbow and marched to her own tune. I never thought she was weird, I loved that girl! I thought she was so wild and so fun and Lux was exactly like her. She was fun, bubbly and normal. She was exactly the way that I thought she would be from reading the blurb for this book.

Watching everything come together and everyone hook up with each other was seriously a whole lot of fun. From Lux and her many men to Aimee and Peter, Margot and Trevor then finally Brooke and Ian…it was great to get to know each of them and I am so going to read the first book in this series. They were so cool! They wrote out their sexual fantasies, wrote erotica and then got together to read what they wrote to each other. It was great! I wonder if the author is going to write more books (I’m seriously hoping she will) because I’m super excited about it.

Reading each of their manuscripts when they came together for their weekly meetings had me laughing, oohing and ahhing right along with all of the girls and I totally felt like one of their writing buddies. I wanted to be a part of their writing group and it’s made me want to join a writing group like theirs. They were so much fun!

As a whole, this book was nicely paced, quick witted and just a total enjoyable roller coaster that I really got into. My only thing was…what happened to Carlos? I knew that he was a bad guy and really, I did want to hate him because he did bad things but I still wondered what happened to him? Curious minds want to know. Aside from that Carlos deal, Ms. Kovetz did a great job of keeping my attention through the entire book and has me waiting impatiently for more. I didn’t want this book to end so I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who wants a quick, laugh out loud read. This book would make a fantastic beach read.
