What I’ve Been Reading This Week

Hidee Ho Neighbors! Wassup with your bad selves? Are you all having good weekends? Hope so.

It was a pretty normal week for me here in Tracy Town. My boss finally got back from her 5 week Sabbatical. I swear it didn’t seem like 5 weeks went by. πŸ™‚

This weekend I made an impromptu trip to visit Holly. We had a great time. I drove to her place (about 3 hours away from me) yesterday. I was lucky enough to catch the tail end of Daphne’s visit with Holly so we all went out to dinner last night and had Mexican food – yum. Then my youngest and I went back to Holly’s and I invaded her book room. Oh it’s so beautifully stuffed with books! lol Then today we went back to Holly’s and I invaded “the room” again. Needless to say we had a great time talking books and I borrowed some great stuff. My youngest had a fab time with Holly’s Rock Band – she got pretty good on those drums! lol

Ok – so on to what I read this week:

Holding Out for a Hero by Ana Leigh was my first read of the week. This is a book that I read for The Book Binge. The book releases on Tuesday and the review will post that day as well.

Next up was Hard and Fast by Erin McCarthy which I’ve already review here.

My next read was Hot Summer Fling by Toni Zuma. This was a short I read for The Book Binge. You can read my review here.

Next up was Hero by Perry Moore. This is a YA novel that I read about on Kris’s blog (click the link to see her thoughts). It’s a book about a teenage boy who is discovering he has super powers but he has to keep that info from his dad because his dad was once a superhero and was later spurned by the super hero League. He also has to keep the fact that he’s gay from his dad. It’s a book about a boy coming into his own and the relationships that are forming the person he is becoming. It’s an incredible read and I recommend it. Although it doesn’t seem totally dark and has humor in it, it’s definitely not a happy tale. Rating: 4.5 out of 5

For Tracy’s TBR Challenge Read for the week I chose Naughty Neighbor by Janet Evanovich. I have to admit I picked this one because it was short. lol A story about a screenwriter and his neighbor who start off by hating each other but come together to try to find out what happened to a pig. Sounds cute, and it is. Rating 3 out of 5

My last read was Under Fire by Jo Davis. I’m having mixed feelings about this second book in her series. I think I’m going to review it this week but I truly can’t decide whether I liked it or not – and I’m definitely having problems rating it. hmmmm….need to ponder.

So did you read anything good this week? What was it? Tell all!

Happy Reading!

  1. This past week was filled with so many books from historicals to paranormals. Unfortunately the majority were pretty “meh” and one book I wanted to throw out the window. It is going down as my worst book for 2009.

Try to decide if that would be too rude to have a post stating that a book is the worst that I have read this year.

    Hey Tracy:

Lady, you leave me in the dust with respect to your book reading and reviewing abilities!!

I’m reading Jaci Burton’s Demon Hunter series right now and liked the first book. The second one is better.

The rest of my ‘spare time’ was taken up with a blog renovation. I need to blog less and read more. πŸ˜‰

I hope you have a great week!

    Regards
    L

  3. Maybe I can sway you (you liked Under Fire! Yes, I believe you really liked it!) I did! The plot with her brother and the gambling debt and all that was so-so, but I really liked Zack and the whole romance part of it.

  4. So glad you ladies got a chance to have a visit! Sounds like fun. It was a great day for a long car ride, too. Sunny but not too hot.

Hero sounds really interesting. I’m going to check out the author site!

I finally finished Hard and Fast. It was good, not great. Now, I’m reading that SheWolf by Teresa D’Amario. Good shapeshifter fun!

Katiebabs: the last time I answered that question in a post, the author had a few comments for me. lol A little uncomfortable to respond to, but, I still stand by it. Hey, it’s your place so as long as you’re being honest, but not mean, you should be able to say what you want! (Now I’m dying of curiosity.)

  5. KB – I think it sucks when a whole week is filled with meh books! There should be at least 1 good one in the bunch! πŸ™‚
Ohhhh – worst read for the year? Yikes!

Lea – I like what you’ve done with your blog – very purty.
I have Burton’s Demon series but haven’t read it yet.

Amy – I’m so torn about Under Fire it’s ridiculous! lol I’m glad you liked it though. πŸ™‚

Renee – I think you’ll really like Hero – just a really good read.
I keep meaning to read She Wolf and it keeps falling off my radar! I need to write it down!

  6. I’m so glad that you liked “Hero”, Tracy. I think it is such an awesome read. Tell me did you cry like I warned you that you might??

  7. Looking forward to your Ana Leigh review. I’ve tried a couple by her in the past, and was rather underwhelmed….but darn, she writes westerns. Any author who writes westerns I really want to LOVE, and when it doesn’t happen it gives me a sad.

And yeah! You got to hang out with Holly and Daphne. And play with books! I love playing with books.

  8. Much chesty covers!! Will defnitely check out the Ana Leigh review, it looks cool.

I am reading comics. Having an ebook funk at the moment. And some Carrie Vaughn – brought the last three books in the Kitty series last week. So on Kitty and the Silver Bullet at mo. OK. Nothing to write home about.

  9. Kris – I did get teary eyeed during a couple of different scenes which is almost unheard of for me so you know it was emotional!

Wendy – Yeah, um, this one was kind of underwhelming as well. Not horrid though. πŸ™‚
Yes, we talked books til my voice was sore from talking! I loved every minute of it. πŸ™‚

Sarah – lol yes there were quite a few chesty covers this week. My 13 year old niece walked into my office and said: Aunt Tracy do you know you have a lot of books with 1/2 naked men on them? lol Uh, yeah, I do. πŸ™‚
Haven’t tried the Kitty series – I’ll have to check that one out. πŸ™‚

  10. You got to hang out with Holly and Daphne!! So lucky!! πŸ™‚

    Great reading list, Tracy πŸ™‚

I agree with you, the Naughty Neighbour was cute, but not wow. I didn’t like the first book by Jo Davis, so I’m not going to pick up this one. Can’t wait to read your review though πŸ™‚
