BEING BULLET PROOF SUCKS—LITERALLY
Once, Maya Black was a kick-ass cop patrolling the streets of L.A. She still keeps the city safe, but nowadays her bad guys of choice include demons, werewolves, and assorted nocturnal scum. Something Maya knows a thing or two about. She’s a vampire—and not thrilled about it. Payback meet bitch.

Adam Brody hopes Maya is as dangerous as they say she is. He needs her to help rescue his niece Cammie from a ruthless band of vamps, and he’s willing to pay—in blood. Trusting her is another matter. Adam has never met a vampire who doesn’t lie. Then again, he’s never met anyone like Maya, who fills him with a desperate need that ignites into explosive, no-holds-barred encounters…

Maya Black is cop who was apparently in the wrong place at the wrong time. She’s attacked by a vamp and unfortunately for her made into a vampire herself. But rather than stop chasing bad human guys/girls she now chases bad vamps, werewolves & demons.

Adam Brody seeks out Maya to help her with the rescue and recovery of his niece. She was taken by the higher up in Maya’s vamp bloodline, Nassor. There’s something very special about Adam and his niece (no, I’m not telling and ruining the surprise) that makes them extra tasty to the head vamp. Maya and Adam are trying to find Cammie and running from werewolves who are on their trail.

This was a pretty fun book to read. It had some paranormal figures in it that I always love reading about: Vampires and Werewolves, and it had the added element of the _______________. (I told you I wasn’t gonna tell you!!! lol)

While Maya was one bad-ass fighter I thought she had a nice softer side to her. Not gushy and mellow, just slightly softer than that hard outer shell. Kind of like a plain m & m…not exactly soft on the inside, just soft-er. She liked helping people even though she didn’t like admitting that. And while she liked taking out the evil of the world I think it had an effect on her every time.

Adam’s character was a little harder to figure out and while I liked him at times other times…not so much. He loved his niece with all of his heart and would do just about anything to see to her safety – hence looking up Maya. (That is something I totally loved about his character.) If Maya hadn’t had the connection to Nassor Adam wouldn’t have looked her up at all. He was soft on some levels – more so than I thought he would be and then at other times there was unmitigated rage. As Maya and Adam’s relationship became more sexual and romantic he became more possessive but I don’t think it was too much. He did doubt her at times which I found odd but he was used to doing things on his own. On the other hand there were times when he let her do things on her own – trusting her to make the right decision.

This was my first read by this author and I enjoyed it. Her writing style was entertaining and easy to read. While I think this is a stand-alone novel I would definitely be interested in reading more about the alpha werewolf in the book, Lucas. He was all around alpha and yummy.

  1. Great review Tracy! I like how it’s the woman who’s the vamp for a change, rather than the hero.

BTW, love your hottie of the moment *fans face*.

  2. Great review, Tracy. This one sounds interesting. I’ve never read anything by this author either.

I love me a smokin’ hot alpha male, too 😉

  3. Jenre – thanks! It was nice to see the female as the vamp for a change. And she was strong and stayed that way, which was especially nice to see.
