The Countess of Sheffield has given up on love. After her two dearest friends marry gentlemen originally destined to meet her at the altar, she can no longer maintain a serene facade with the other members of the secret widow’s club. So she flees north-right into an unexpected snow storm in the wilds of Yorkshire. When her carriage crashes, Grace Sheffey does not realize the tall, rugged stranger who saves her life will tempt her to blossom into the woman she is destined to become-a lady willing to fight for her happiness. And sinfully handsome Michael Rainier, the orphaned son of a dissolute earl, with secrets to hide, challenges her courage and promises that happiness.

After Grace Sheffey is rescued from a snow storm she is holed up with Michael Ranier, new land owner and mysterious blacksmith, from the colonies. Grace finds herself drawn to him despite his lowly birth. Michael is completely overwhelmed by Grace’s beauty, but it’s her inherent goodness that attracts him to her.

When Grace’s friends eventually find her at Michael’s house they Michael and Grace separate with harsh words and each swears they want nothing to do with the other. However they are both fooling themselves and want nothing more than to be together. But Michael is not only a new land owner but a fugitive and how can a Countess be with a man on the run.

Michael was just a good soul. He thought he was unredeemable because of his past but he was just very kind. Grace had basically been called an Ice Queen and felt that she’s never defrost. But Grace was just as kind as Michael and they were a wonderful match. And the love scenes – wow – incredibly sensual and very hot.

This was a great book. It’s my first read of Ms. Nash’s and I wasn’t sure what to expect. I truly enjoyed her writing style as I felt that I was drawn into the book and was watching the goings-on very closely. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who loves historicals – it’s a good one. I plan to go back and start this series, Widows Club, from the beginning.

  1. I’m reading my first historical romance now (Julia Quinn :: The Duke and I) and I’m really loving it! This sounds like it’s definitely worth a try 8) Thanks!

  2. I love Sophia Nash’s writing. I picked this one up as soon as it came out but haven’t gotten around to it.

I will be moving it up the pile now! Glad you liked it.

  3. Thank you Tracy! This sounds good!

Mishel – if you’re enjoying The Duke and I then you have The Viscount Who Loves Me to look forward too (which is my favourite Julia Quinn book 🙂

  4. Oh the Julia Quinn stories are great. I loved that series! Actually now that I think about it I still have 2 more to read! lol

Ames – I’m definitely going to have to read the first two in this series!

  5. I read the first 2 books in this series and they were okay, but not enough to convince me to read the next one. However your review is changing my mind. Tracy, you are EVOL! (And I mean that in the nicest possible way).

  6. Stacy – it’s funny how I can read a 3rd or 4th book in the series and really like it…but would I have liked it as much if I’d read the first 2? IDK. I did like Luc’s character in this one a lot and want to read his book (Book 1). He was just such an ass – I loved it. lol

And yes I am evol! bwhahahaha!
