Review: Nauti Boy by Lora Leigh

Posted March 18, 2009 by Casee in Reviews | 4 Comments

Too weak to resist young Kelly Benton’s attempts at seduction, Rowdy Mackay left home eight years ago. Duty as a U.S. Marine put a safe distance between temptation and the nubile Kentucky vixen. Now he’s back home and ready to engage in the kind of erotic games that have earned him and his two cousins a Nauti-boy reputation in three counties.

Once it was Kelly’s dream too-to feel the heat of the boy she desired. But an attack from a stalker still on the prowl has left Kelly terrified of a man’s touch. Now as fear and desire converge, Rowdy fights to save her from the deadly threats of a stranger, to rid her of her demons, and to satisfy a hunger more powerful than either can imagine.

Nu-bile [ˈnu bɪl, -baɪl, ˈnyu-]: -adjective. 1. (of a young woman) suitable for marriage, esp. in regard to age or physical development; marriageable. 2. (of a young woman) sexually developed and attractive: the nubile girls in their bikinis.

I love Lora Leigh. She is nothing if not consistent. Since this is Lora Leigh we’re talking about, I think I’ll have to go with door number two for nubile Kelly.

I don’t know if it’s because I’ve grown as a reader, but there are things in this book that would have never bothered me before, but now do. Hello, Marly’s Choice? Sarah’s Seduction? Heather’s Gift? I loved those books and didn’t even squick out over the fact that the three brothers had this unnatural desire to do the same chick at the same time. So what was my problem with Nauti Boy?

My first problem with this book is that Rowdy Mackay started lusting after Kelly before she even got in a training bra. Sure, the guy left town and stayed away, but it’s still pretty disturbing. I guess as an adult male, he wouldn’t have been able to keep his hands off a teenage girl if he would have stayed in town. Sounds a little harsh, but I didn’t exactly have any sympathy for Rowdy.

So now he’s back and ready to stake his claim on the nubile Kelly. It doesn’t really go according to plan after Rowdy finds out that Kelly was sexually assaulted and no one told him. Now he has rage in his heart and vows to Kelly that she will be safe from the sicko who attacked her. He’s willing to be patient with the sex thing. He’ll give her at least a week. Snort. Honestly, I think the reason Kelly was ready for sex so quickly was b/c deep down she trusted Rowdy.

Aside from the stalker, Rowdy has a small problem. Though he’s always been willing to share his women with his cousins – Dawg and Natches (srsly?) –, he’s not so willing to share Kelly. This causes some disaccord between two of the cousins b/c it’s just been a given that they would eventually share her. Hello Arrogance? Party for three.

I think Nauti Boy is my least favorite of Lora Leigh’s books. That doesn’t mean I’m still not a fan. Everyone is allowed to have one dud (so says I).

3 out of 5.

This book is available from Berkley. You can buy it here or here in e-format.

  1. Thank you Casee. I didn’t enjoy this book as much of the Men of August (did I just say that out loud?) so I stopped reading after this book. I love Lora Leigh and I’m (im)patiently waiting to borrow Coyote’s Mate from the library but I’m so over the stalker plot line 🙁

I haven’t actually read this one but I have read the 2nd and most of the 3rd. Let’s just say, not Lora’s best series. I just didn’t buy it.

It seemed more an excuse for loosely linked sex scenes rather than a story with erotic elements.

I enjoyed the Men of August a couple of years ago but even then I thought it was a bit strange that the brothers “needed” to share women in order to “express love for each other”. Frankly, I would have done better with it if it was just cause they liked it. (Personally, I’m not into that but if there’s gonna be a menage or more then why base it on an abusive childhood?).

    just sayin’.

I liked this one, however, the next book in the series is so bad I gave it a D 🙁
Ames and I reviewed it over at BT.

I liked this one – it could’ve been fleshed out a little more, and it’s not my favorite series, but I kept it. Although I think I like the second one better. Looking forward to the fourth book coming out next month!
