What I’ve Been Reading This Week

Well it’s been a pretty slow week around the old homestead. Work was a little hectic because our annual meeting was today and I had to get things ready for that – never fun.

The big news in our house was my little one losing her first tooth! lol Excitement all around. That girl can’t stop showing the world the gap in her face (picture a post or 3 back). omg – the checker at the grocery store, the librarian, the man at the gas station…and on and on. So stinkin funny.

So here’s what I read this week:

Started off with Veil of Midnight by Lara Adrian. The 5th book in her Midnight Breed series, and she certainly did not disappoint. It was a great book and I can hardly wait for the next installment!

Next up was a short by Tressie Lockwood called Tempting the Wolf. This was a strange little story about a girl who is very sheltered being, well, stalked is a good word for it. It was just kind of bizarre the way things came about and I wasn’t a fan of her having to lose her virginity in front of a crowd. No thanks.

Next was a book I read for review on The Book Binge called Pieces of My Sister’s Life by Elizabeth Joy Arnold. I loved the writing but I have to say the emotions were crazy out of control. My review will be up soon – I’ll let you all know when.

Let’s see then I read a Nocturne Bite by Karen Whiddon called Mate of the Wolf. This was a were-wolf/vamp story. It was well done but I just don’t usually go for the fall in love in a day scenarios – but that’s just me.

Last up was Dragon Actually by G.A. Aiken. I saw info about this book and the 2nd in the series on Amy’s blog and was interested in reading them. Pretty darned good. Fantasy romance with dragon shapeshifters. The thing I found interesting about this novel was that the first story only went til about page 220. Then another story started (one about the hero’s parents from the first story when they were young) and lasted about 120 pages. It was cool to see a little insight into events that were mentioned in the first story playing out in the second. Well done.
(oh and how cool is this? I went on Amy’s site to get her link and she had a review for Dragon Actually that she posted today! woohoo. Here it is!)

Happy Reading!

  1. OMG…the werewolf book. Katie was so mean to make us read that. LOL

I keep seeing all these great reviews for the G. A. Aiken books. I need to buy these!!

Once again, Tracy, you make me feel like a slacker. 😛

  2. Losing a tooth is major news! I read the Adrian too. I’ve really enjoyed this series, but this one was hard for me to get into.

  3. You’ve had a busy reading week! I didn’t stick with the Adrian series, but the buzz around her latest book makes me wish that I had.

  4. Oh KB – thank God we don’t! lol

Jen – I know – Katie is evil forcing our eyes upon the page. Ok, well maybe we weren’t forced. 🙂
You? A Slacker? Hardly. I only read 3 books and a couple of shorts!

Rosie – it was for my little darling. She’s so funny..cracks me up every time she opens her mouth in public!
About the Adrian book – it was, IMO, different from the rest of the series but I liked it none the less. There was just something about it that had me picking it up time and again. Probably Renata – she rocked.

Brie – I’m always curious when I hear someone say they didn’t stick with a series…what was it about it that made you not keep reading?

  5. Annual Meeting=Annual Report. BLAH. I feel your pain, baby..and they just asked me to serve. I’m like..uh…”Quick what’s that over there!!”

    ::runs and hides::

    🙂

Anywho~ I have no idea what you all are talking about.

  6. Lisa – I figured you’d feel my pain. That damned annual report is just horrible! I hate that thing. At least it only has to be done once a year.
They asked you? I hope you ran willy nilly and hid behind the closest pillar! lol That’s what I would have done.

  7. Wow the tooth thing BIG DEAL LOL had it happen to me with the Godchildren. They met the BF this weekend and were like Hi I’m Savannah wanna see my missing tooth Iz a big girl now. *me slaps forehead* doh!

    LOL

I just got the Adrian book in the mail so excited.

  8. That’s so funny about your daughter. Devin has always been kinda closed up around people he doesn’t know. Of course he’s not like that at home!

Cool, I’m glad you liked Dragon Actually. It had some good dialogue. I don’t usually read light stuff like that, but I really liked it. I looked earlier on her website and the third one is coming out in September. I didn’t notice whose book it was though.

  9. Sarai – Yes, the tooth thing is BIG with my youngest. My oldest was excited but didn’t want to show every Tom, Dick and Harry on the street! lol
I saw that you got the book from Lara herself! Congrats!

Amy – Yeah, my kids are NOT shy! lol Well, actually when I introduce my youngest to people sometimes she is but the lost tooth has definitely brought her out of her shell.
I liked Dragon Actually. I thought at first that the flippancy of the heroine was going to grate on me but she calmed down and it was great.
