Guest Review: The Candlelight Ghost by Ellie Moonwater

A flickering flame represents a spirit at rest, yet one candle will not light.

For Helena, lighting a candle is a way to honor the dead and their passage into the next life. But when she flees an ex who wants to exploit her abilities to see and speak with spirits, she finds a stubborn ghost and a candle that will not light.

The ghost has a final request not so easily answered when its surviving husband and child disturb more than Helena’s peace.

Torn between the child’s steadfast belief in her mother’s ghost, and the husband’s equally adamant denial, Helena must find a way to reconcile her new life with the ghost’s wish and evade the darkness in her past.

Helena has moved into this new house and since she can talk to ghosts discovers that there is one in residence that hasn’t crossed over. It seems that the ghost hasn’t had a request fulfilled so she asks Helena to do that for her. The request: Take care of the ghosts husband. It seems that the hubby is taking care of the daughter, but no one is taking care of him.

Helena and the Eli meet when he and his daughter comes so that the daughter, Samantha, can talk to her mommy, which she does mostly every day. Helena says that she can continue doing so even though they’ve sold the house.

I don’t normally read fantasy romance and I think that the fantasy part of this story kind of threw me off. It was a good story, but not necessarily romance in my opinion. The two main characters have an attraction to each other, but it’s not played upon too much in the story. It seemed to focus more on the belief in ghosts more.

There’s also another part of the story where Helena is running from her ex-boyfriend who wants her to hunt and basically capture ghosts, which Helena wants no part of. He finds her despite her attempt to move where he wouldn’t and he’s accompanied by dark fae which was unexpected. I think that the story was written well and I enjoyed the authors voice but my mind just isn’t used to stretching in the strange directions that this story wanted to take me.
