Best of 2008: The Books

Posted December 29, 2008 by Holly in Features | 9 Comments

We read a lot around here. We average probably more books a month than a lot of others read in a year. While that’s wonderful, it sure does make picking our best reads of the year really hard. Last year we did 5 (well, I did 10, but shh…) and we’re going to do the same again this year.

Holly’s List:

  1. Twisted Creek by Jodi Thomas
  2. Tall Tales and Wedding Veils by Jane Graves
  3. Scream for Me by Karen Rose
  4. Baby, I’m Yours by Karen Templeton
  5. Memories of Us by Linda Winfree

Casee’s List:

Because I’m so indecisive, I’m listing these in the order that I read them in.

1. Unlawful Contact by Pamela Clare
2. Dark Desires After Dusk by Kresley Cole
3. Bet Me by Jennifer Crusie (even though I’ll never live this one down)
4. Acheron by Sherrilyn Kenyon
5. Hostage to Pleasure by Nalini Singh

Wena:

Alright, here’s my list of Best books of 2008. It was really hard to choose just five..but I conquered.

1. Acheron by Sherrilyn Kenyon.
2. Frisco’s Kid by Suzanne Brockmann. (This wasn’t a new release but it was a new to me read and I loooooovvvvvvveeeeeedddddd it!)
3. Queen of Babble Gets Hitched by Meg Cabot.
4. Unlawful Contact by Pamela Clare.
5. Oceans Apart by Karen Kingsbury.

Man, that was harder than a lot of things that I had to do this year but there you have it…our best books of 2008. What’s yours?

  1. Ugh! Only 5??? Ok this is hard…

Let’s see, I’m not sure these are in order, but I did love them all.

    1) Wicked Game – Jeri Smith-Ready (Vampire DJs! SLURP!)
    2) Personal Demon – Kelley Armstrong (I love this Otherworld series SO much! Fun books!)
    3) Swallowing Darkness – Laurell K. Hamilton (This one could have ended the Merry Gentry series. Very nice!)
    4) Personal Demons – Stacia Kane (A radio personality and a lot of demons! Fun read!)
    5) The Summoning – Kelley Armstrong (I don’t usually like YA fiction, but again, her paranormal world is addictive. Fun read!)

Also loved Season of the Witch by Natasha Mostert but I can’t remember if I read that at the beginning of this year or the end of last year. It’s definitely worth reading…

    So there are mine! 🙂

    Lisa

  2. Willa

Well, I scarfed down all Nalini Singh’s books – so that’s my five!! Caressed By Ice being my fave.

I also discovered Cynthia Eden and Larissa Ione – great paranormal reads.

  3. I had Acheron for a month from the library and did not read it. I think I need to do some rereading before I can read it and be able to follow it.
    Great lists 🙂

  4. Seneca

I just ordered that Pamela Clare book. SQUUEEE!

Cassee, Hostage to Pleasure was initially a DNF for me. I picked it back up after about 2 weeks, and was able to finish it finally.

  5. Rowena

    Katiebabs,

I’m a bigger contemporary fan than anything else, I LOVE them!

    Seneca/CJ,

There are two books before that book but that one is soooo good.

    Kris,

I didn’t reread any books before reading Acheron and it wasn’t too hard for me to follow along, it was such a good book for me.

    Tracy,

Holly threatened to break out her whip so 5 it is….LOL.
