Best of 2008: The Authors

Posted December 30, 2008 by Holly in Features | 15 Comments

Day two of our “Best of 2008” brings us to authors. Some are new to us and others are favorites who released new books this year (or maybe not?).

Holly’s List:

1. Jill Shalvis
2. Meljean Brook
3. Karen Templeton
4. Karen Rose
5. Linda Winfree

There were several others I read this year that I was very impressed with but didn’t list, mostly because I only read one or two books by them. I’m going to list them here as authors to keep my eye on in 2009. It’s possible they’ll end up on next years list:

Jessica Andersen
Lori Wilde
Jane Graves
Mary Margret Daughtrigdge
Robin Kaye

Rowena’s List:

1. Jill Shalvis
2. Julie James
3. Sherrilyn Kenyon (she wrote Acheron)
4. Julia Quinn (am still in love with Jack Audley)
5. Pamela Clare.

Casee’s List:

1. Sherrilyn Kenyon (only for Acheron)
2. Karen Rose
3. Nalini Singh
4. Maya Banks
5. Elizabeth Hoyt

Who are your favorite authors of 2008 (new or old favorites)?

  1. I personally love these lists. I think they are genius. Especially Rowena’s. ; )

Seriously, Rowena, thank you so much! I’m really blown away to be included in a Best Author list. Wow. Not sure I deserve the designation, but I will tell every single person I know about it anyway. ; )

Thanks to you and everyone at Book Binge for all your wonderful support of Just the Sexiest Man Alive!

    Best,
    Julie

Some of my favorite 2008 authors: Meg Cabot, Kristan Higgins, Erin McCarthy, and Jill Shalvis.

    My list for 2008 includes:

    – new authors (for me): Karen Rose, Kristan Higgins, Julia Quinn, Pamela Clare, Suzanne Brockmann, and Lisa Kleypas
    – old favorites: J.D. Robb, and (based on re-reads) Nora Roberts, Julie Garwood, Judith McNaught, Andrea Kane, Linda Howard

  4. I definitely have to agree with Holly and Rowena in listing Jill Shalvis. She definitely tops my list which also includes Gena Showalter, Shelly Laurenston, Larissa Ione, and James Rollins.

  5. I agree with the Jill Shalvis listing, i love her books this year. For my own list I would have Bianca D’Arc. I have read a bunch of her stuff this year and been very impressed.

  6. Rowena

Hey, so how many books are in that Karen Rose series that you guys love so much?

    CJ,

I’ve never read her…how much am I missing out?

  7. Thank Goodness Casee listed Nalini Singh or I might have passed out 😉

She’s my newest auto-buy author and I can’t wait for her next release.

Anne Stuart (like, no kidding, eh ;))

I also wonder about Karen Rose – are they about one couple and mysteries? I want more romance dangit!

I’m writing Jill Shalvis down because I don’t believe I have read any of her books. I’m going to go back to writing down books to buy and authors to watch for in hardcopy – I’ve been, ‘oh I’ll remember that and then stand in the romance section with a giant ‘uhmmmmmm, can’t remember a thing’.

    Julie,

Haha, you were certainly one of my favorite authors this year so you deserved to be on this list!

    Karin,

Isn’t Jill awesome? I love that woman and I cannot wait for more from her!

Julie Garwood is one of my favorites, her older books rock my socks! Suzanne Brockmann too, dude..how could I forget about her? Hmm, dang.

Oh dang KB, how could I forget Lisa Kleypas?

    Crap.

  9. Holly~

    Thanks for the honorable mention!

I hope I make the list next year.

    All the best,

    Robin Kaye
