What I’ve Been Reading This Week

Posted November 10, 2008 by Tracy in Features | 7 Comments

Good but very busy week. Between shuttling the oldest to tutoring (which is going well), physical therapy appointments (rotator cuff issues) & school projects I’ve had very little time for anything, including reading.

Hubby and I were supposed to go away this weekend for our anniversary but his bosses (corporate) slammed him with a surprise inventory. Oh well, we’ll get away another weekend soon. We did take some time last night and went out for dinner and movie. You should have seen hubby’s face when I turned to him at the bar and asked him if my face has started to sag. OMG the look on his face. You could tell he was trying not to laugh at my question yet say the “right” thing at the same time. I finally spared him, started laughing and told him I wasn’t serious. lol

So not much in the book department this week:

First off was Kiss of Fury by Deborah Cooke. This is the second book in her Dragonfire series. I found this book to be much more interesting and entertaining than the first. There was a lot going on, but it all meshed in the end. Unfortunately I read it in stops and starts and it took me forever. I may have felt differently about the book, if I’d read it in a couple of days but I still gave it 3.5 out of 5 stars. I’m looking forward to the next book.

Next up was a short story called Breathless by Ericka Scott. I’ve read a couple of Ms. Scott’s m/f works before and enjoyed them. I have to say that I have great respect any author who gets published. This short however was not for me. It was an m/m story with were-swans (1 with vertigo) hot air balloons, male models and vindictive ex-wives…a lot going on in 36 pages. Let’s just say I wouldn’t recommend the story.

Then I read a novella by Patrice Michelle. This Nocturne Bite, Scions: Perception, is a story in her Scions series. I really enjoy Ms. Michelle’s writing and this novella was no different. I’m looking forward to Scions: Revelation that comes out Dec. 1, 2008.

Last on the list was Magic In His Kiss by Shari Anton. I read this one for review The Book Binge. It was a sweet book and you can go here and read all about it.

And that’s it! See, I told you life was getting in the way! I intended to read Meljean’s Demon Bound this weekend but haven’t gotten very far in it. But what I’ve read so far is wonderful. I’ll keep you posted!

Happy Reading!

  1. You’re the one going to PT? I hope everything is healing well.

I still have to read Kiss of Fury. I haven’t been in the mood for paranormal lately.

I looked into the Shari Anton books. They sound good. I think I looked at them before, they look familiar. Can you tell me before your review’s posted if you liked it :)? And did you read the other two books? It says it’s a trilogy? Are they all related or can they be read out of order? Not that I like doing that…

Hopefully this week isn’t so busy for you!

  2. Hey Tracy, I was really tempted by the first Cooke book, but it got kind of mediocre reviews, so I passed. Can I start with the second book, or is the first one necessary to understand what the heck is going on?

Hope your shoulder feels better! That’s no fun at all.

And I’m glad your face isn’t sagging too much. LOL!

  3. Sorry – goofed on that last comment:

Amy – Yep that’s me going to PT. I’m improving so hopefully I won’t have to go much longer. 🙂

About Shari Anton – I didn’t read the first 3 books but you can read this one without reading the first two. I’m usually anal about reading in order but it worked out. I liked the book and didn’t feel like I needed to read the first two. The series is a trilogy about 3 sisters with magical powers. I did become curious about their powers while reading the 3rd book and MAY go back eventually and read the others. I think you’d like it (the 3rd book).

Kati – there are some things in the first Cooke book that it’s nice to know but I don’t think you need to read it if you don’t want to. I think that enough about what’s going on is explained in the second book.
Thanks – about the shoulder…and my face! lol

CJ – Thank you! I like the Scions books. They involve vampires as well as werewolves – 2 of my favorite things!

  4. I LOL’d at you asking him if your face is sagging. hahahah That’s hilarious.

Glad you got a night together, but it sucks about your trip getting canceled.

I haven’t read crap lately. Hopefully I’ll get my groove back soon.

  5. KB – that’s me – silly. 🙂

Holly – You know, you gotta keep these men on their toes. No normal conversation for this chick, oh no. lol
And can I just say…READ! (did that help?)
