The Missing

Her psychic gift drove away the man she loved— and years later has drawn him back to her…

As a teenager, Taige Branch hated her psychic gift. No one could understand—except for Cullen Morgan, the boy who stole her heart. He did his best to accept her, until his mother was brutally murdered—and he couldn’t forgive Taige for not preventing it.

Now a widowed father, Cullen Morgan has never forgotten Taige. But what brings her back into his life is another tragedy. His beloved little girl has been kidnapped, and Taige is his only hope of finding her. Working together against the clock, Cullen and Taige can’t help but wonder whether—if they find his daughter in time—it isn’t too late for the overpowering love that still burns between them…

With the abundance of paranormals out there today, it’s refreshing to read one that has nothing to do with vampires, werewolves, or any other mystical being. I read an excerpt of this book before I read the blurb and I was instantly intrigued. It just sounded different.

Taige Branch was used to being alone. After her parents died and she was sent to live with her uncle, Taige withdrew into herself. Awaiting the day when she’d turn eighteen and be able to leave her uncle’s house. Taige knows that she’s different than other people, that normal people don’t see the future. She’s tried hard to suppress that side of her, but it’s not easily done. With an uncle that tells her she’s the devil’s spawn and a “gift” she can’t control, all Taige wants is peace in her life.

The summer she meets Cullen Morgan, she knows he’s different. He’s seen her gift first hand and doesn’t condemn her for it. Cullen is the only person that she’s able to be herself with and she revels in it. Falling in love w/ Cullen was as natural to Taige as breathing. That all changes when Taige “sees” Cullen’s mother die, but not in time to prevent her death. Cullen blames her and pushes her out of his life.

Fifteen years have passed since Cullen broke not only Taige’s heart, but her world. Since that long ago day, Taige has opened herself up to her gift and helps anyone she can. Doing so has taken it’s toll on Taige and the only sanctuary she has found is in her dreams. Dreams that give her Cullen. Cullen loving her how she has always wanted to be loved by him. Dreams where she can be the person she wanted to be. Even that is shattered when Cullen shows up on her doorstep begging for her help in locating his nine year old daughter.

Shiloh Walker has an amazing gift for drawing the reader into the story. As I was reading it, I found that I couldn’t stop reading b/c I had to know what happened next. Taige is a strong woman who has been to hell and back. You can’t help but admire her for what she has gone through and what she continues to go through, all in the name of saving innocent lives. The death of Cullen’s mother and his reaction to it changed the course of Taige’s life. She can’t not help Cullen, especially when she sees a picture of Jillian and realizes that she’s been dreaming of her before she was even born. Cullen and Taige’s love is a timeless one. Nothing can keep these two apart, even in their dreams.

I haven’t read a Shiloh Walker book in a while, too. This one sounds really good. Can’t wait to check it out.
