Nothing matches Lora Leigh's latest entry in the series about genetically altered Breeds with feline DNA, and the humans who awaken their desire.

Someone has been slipping the Sanctuary's secure information to a pharmaceutical company. Now it's up to Ria Rodriguez to pose as a clerk and uncover the leak. Yet she has no idea of the danger she's about to encounter, or the passion she's about to ignite in one of the greatest Breeds ever created.

Years ago, Mercury Warrant -- who, according to his file, is one of the greatest Breeds ever created -- thought he lost his mate, and he's had to live with the idea that he'll never know true bonding. Then he's tapped to protect the mysterious Ria -- and finds himself falling in love.

But Ria is a woman of many secrets, and she fears being consumed by her feelings for Mercury. Little does she know that she has every right to be afraid. Because the woman believed to be Mercury's true mate is back from the grave, and she's not about to let Ria -- or anyone else -- get in her way...

Ria Rodriguez is going into Sanctuary doing what she does best; get information that no one else can get. Someone has been selling Santuary’s secrets and Ria has been told to go in and find out why. There’s only one catch. She can’t let anyone know why she’s really there b/c she has no idea who could be involved. Whoever is involved could destroy everything the Breeds have worked so hard for in the past twelve years. Selling secrets that will give their enemies enough to bring them down.

Since the death of her mother, Ria has learned to keep who she truly is hidden. She knows exactly what happens when she lets go and since the years following her mother’s death, she has never lost control. Ria is used to her life, is even happy. Still, nothing prepares her for Mercury Warrant.

Mercury has long since accepted the fact that he does not have the same instincts and talent as other Breeds. Since the day his mate was killed and he lost control in the lab, Mercury has never been the same. Mercury knows that losing the lion that was part of him was the best thing that could have happened. Without the help of the doctors and scientists, Mercury would have gone feral and nothing or no one would have stopped him.

Though his animal instinct is gone, that doesn’t stop him from wanting Ria Rodriguez the moment he sets eyes on her. Though he knows that his mate is gone forever, he soon learns that it doesn’t mean he can’t love or have feelings for Ria. As the months go by and Ria continues looking into Sanctuary’s files, Mercury and Ria can’t deny their attraction to each other. As they find themselves falling in love, they both wish that things could have been different; that they could have been mated in a way that completes a Breed.

This is one of my favorite Breed books so far. Mercury was a different sort of Breed, which made the book so much more interesting. Even though the mating signs aren’t present, Mercury isn’t willing to let Ria deny what they have found together. As far as he’s concerned, Ria is his in every way that counts and he wont’ let her go. It was also interesting to get another look inside Sanctuary. Lora Leigh really opened several avenues that she can take with the series. I especially liked the epilogue.

Fans of this series will like Mercury’s War. It definitely puts a twist on the series and I really look forward to see where it goes from here.

I just finished this book tonight. Mercury War’s is now one of my faves of the Breeds. While I figured out who the culprits were when they were first mentioned, there were other surprises that I didn’t figure on, one of which include about Ria. And I second you about the epilogue, which just enforces my opinion — and hope!– of who will be Jonas’ mate. *crossing fingers*

  2. I really want to start at the begining with this series but am having the hardest time finding them…You wouldn’t happen to know where I can find them would you? You guys seem to know everything that I have missed.

I just finished hunting all the books. I got a couple from Ellora’s Cave website, some from B&N and Amazon. Good luck!

I’ve only finished 3 of them…can’t wait to read this in a couple of weeks.

Heather, I bought most of the Breeds books via Amazon and Rhapsody book club. Or you can check out ebay but the bidding can be pretty competitive.

  5. Tracy,

Well, did you read it? What did you think?

    Tabitha,

    I’m so w/ you.

    Heather,

Have you found them all yet? Email me and I’ll give you some leads. casee at thebookbinge dot com.

I hope your right, and that this is a good one.

Just like Sarah McCarthy, I think Lora Leigh left her best writing back at Ellora’s Cave. I sure did LOVE WIld Card, though.
