What I’ve Been Reading This Week

Well Helloooooooo! (think Mrs. Doubtfire)

I’ve been scarce this week and it’s not made me a happy person! After being away from work for 3 days I had about 8 days worth of work to make up! wtf? lol Isn’t that always how it is though? And I think that there was a bug going around RAW (according to the yahoo group loop) that kicked eveyone’s ass, including mine. I’ve felt kind of out of it all week and I’ve been falling asleep at around 9pm every night. What am I, 80? Hopefully it has passed – it’s 8:30pm now and I’m still perky so I’m crossing my fingers!! I’ll be back to blog hopping tomorrow!!! 🙂

We also had parent/teacher goal setting conferences this week as well – oh joy. My little one is doing fine but my oldest is having problems. I think she’s been having problems but this is the first teacher to really get down and dirty with how she presented the info and was completely honest. It wasn’t pretty. I immediately scheduled my oldest for an assessment at a local tutoring place. Hopefully we’ll be able to nip this in the bud and get her back on track. She’s a smart kid but her focus issues and the fact she doesn’t give a shit about school has really hurt her. We’ll see and I’ll report back. I know, you’re all dying to know.

Today the girls, my sister (still visiting from KC, MO), my dad and I all went out to a monastery that’s about an hour from my house. They were having their annual Festival and had vendors and food and jumpers and it was great fun. The highlight of the day though was meeting Fr. Maur Van Doorslaer who is the creator/designer behind a line of angels and saints that the monastery, Valyermo has sold for 40 years. (my mom’s had his angels hanging on the walls of her house for years) I didn’t know that Fr. Maur was going to be in attendance and he was just as nice as can be. He signed all 7 angels and saints that I bought and even told my little ones stories about when he started, etc. He signed ceramics from the time the festival opened until the moment it was done. It was amazing considering he’s 83. He lives 5 mos. at Valyermo and the rest of the year in the monastery in Belgium. What I love about Fr. Maur’s designs is that he includes everything/one he can think of. He has great occupational angels – military, babysitters, hairdressers – he even has a laundry angel!! If you’d like to see them you can see the catalog online here. He also has a book angel and a bookworm angel – both of which were sold out at the festival – waaaah! Anyway just wanted to share that tidbit.

So in the fog that I was living in this week I had a very hard time focusing myself. I read on Monday when I was home but after that had an extremely hard time wanting to read anything longer than 125 pages! lol Seriously…if it was longer it was just too overwhelming! I also have been very attached to my ereader so that didn’t help either since I was just reading books I already had loaded.

Sooo…

It’s been a few weeks since I’d read a Suzanne Brockmann and I have to admit I’ve been jonesin! lol I read All Through The Night and loved it. I really like Jules and Robin and enjoyed the story surrounding their wedding immensely.

Last week I had started reading Anya Bast’s Seasons of Pleasure series and I continued it with book 4 Autumn Pleasures: The Union and book 5 Seasons of Change. Both were good and I have to say I enjoyed the series. (both book 4 & 5 were novellas)

I decided to read Delilah Devlin’s My Immortal Knight series. I can’t say I loved it but it was ok. I guess I have to say I liked them enough to keep reading it since I read 5 of the books: All Hallow’s Heartbreaker, Love Bites, All Knight Long, Relentless and Uncovering Navarro. This is a vampire series (all novellas) and they were pretty much equating sex with love but if you can get past that a few of them are pretty hot. 😉 The covers to these books – scary hilarious!!

Finished with My Lord and Spymaster by Joanna Bourne. I finally broke out of my novella mode and am back on track with actual novels!! I really enjoyed this book – the witty banter and the wonderful characters that Ms. Bournes writes will keep me going back for more of her work.

Sorry – no covers this week – see back to previous paragraphs about living in fog.

2 things…1)don’t forget to visit the DIK blog this week where Lisabea will be hosting Ally Blue, Jet Mykles, James Buchanan and JL Langley for m/m week. 2) Mondays are chapter days at Amy’s blog Romance Book Wyrm. Head on over and read a chapter of her book every Monday. Very cool.

I hope everyone had a great reading week!

  1. I heart Joanna Bourne like nobody's business. <3 <3 <3 <3 <3

It sounds like you had a terribly busy week! but at least a mostly good one. thanks for sharing!

  2. Isn’t Joanna Bourne wonderful? I mean, I knew she was after The Spymaster’s Lady but she really drove it home on this one. Love her! 🙂

  3. First of all, of course I’m going to want to hear back about the progress with your oldest. Hopefully you’ll have some advice for me. My youngest sounds like her twin!

    Those angel statues sound neat!

So glad you got some good reading in … but get some sleep and feel better soon. 🙂

  4. Oh Bridget you’re so very welcome! And I’m glad you like Rhage!

Christine – I’ll definitely keep you posted about what’s going on with my oldest. I dropped her off for her assessment this morning and it will take 4 to 4.5 hours!!! Poor kid. lol
The angels are very cute and very inventive! He’s got a great sense of humor as well since the teacher angels say 1+1=3! I’m feeling much better this week, thanks!

  5. Hi Tracy, I’m still catching up blog hopping. Valyermo!! We’ve been several times and have Fr. Maur’s work hanging in our house. Do they still have lots of artists there? I bought a hand carved bird (swallow) there many years ago that I still love.

    Hope you are feeling better.

  6. Hey Rosie! Yes they still have tons of artists there. Some of them are just fantatic. I’m sure your bird is just beautiful.
I love Fr. Maur’s work. I didn’t actually get anything for myself this time – just Christmas gifts for coworkers and the kids’ teachers. I did bring home a catalog though which is completely dangerous! lol
