What I’ve Been Reading This Week

Hey everyone!

How was your week? How are things going for you? Good I hope!

I had a pretty normal week. Every day life doing every day things – just like I like it! 🙂

RAW starts on Friday! I’m so very excitied! I’ll be flying out to West Virginia on Thurday since it will take all stinkin day to get there but I’ll have lots of reading time. My friend Jen will be going with me and since she’s always got her nose stuck in a book as well I’ll be in great company! I’ll fly back in on Sunday.

I almost fulfilled my goal of reading at least 1 book by every RAW author. I read all but 2 authors. I bought 1 ebook this weekend and the stinker wouldn’t download for some reason (to Adobe Digital Editions – yuk). I sent an email to the book site and hopefully it will get cleared up…but who knows. The other author I attempted to read and couldn’t get past the first 40 pages. Oh well! I gave it the old college try!

One of my sister’s flew in from Kansas City, MO on Friday and a bunch of the family went and saw Wicked the musical. OMG it was so incredibly good! I had no idea it was a comedy too and that made it even better. If you ever have the chance to go – doooo eeet!

Ok – reading this week:

Promises Linger by Sarah McCarty. I have had this ebook for a while and finally got to it. I really liked it a lot. I thought Asa was just wonderful and Elizabeth for all her prior prudish ways turned out to be quite great in the end.
Dark Embrace by Brenda Joyce – see review in previous post.

Witch Way to Murder by Shirley Damsgaard (RAW author). I read this one because she’s a RAW author and I I needed to read it for the TBR Challenge and I liked it. Check the blog out on Wed. of this week for my TBR Challenge Review.

Heiress for Hire by Erin McCarthy (RAW author). I think it was Sayuri60 that recommended this book to me and I really liked it. I don’t have any problems with children in books, as I’ve discussed prior and this one just got to me. The child in this book was abused emotionally and that just killed me but the whole book was filled with love and lots of laughter. If you want a light, fast read and don’t mind kids in books I’d recommend it.

Promises Keep by Sarah McCarty was almost as good as the first in this series. I didn’t like it quite as much as Promises Linger but was still a great read.

The Trouble With Moonlight by Donna MacMeans (RAW author) was pretty good. It was a historical about a spy for the crown, James Locke, and Lusinda Havershaw who is a rare being in that she can soak up moonlight and become invisible. Yes, in case you’re wondering they did have invisible sex. Just a tad strange IMO. lol The book started off slow but it was a pretty good story. There were some inconsistencies in the book that bothered me but I’d still give it a 3 out of 5 stars.

Happy Reading!

  1. That’s so cool you got to see Wicked. You should check out the book it’s based on… Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West- By: Gregory Maguire. It’s one of my faves. 🙂

  2. Dang that’s a good reading week. Me? Not so much. I did finish the Christine Feehan book, but that’s about it. It was slow going over the weekend too, but we just had lots going on.

  3. What an eclectic mix of books, Tracy! Very cool.

My daughter saw Wicked on Broadway two summers ago with a friend and her family and absolutely loved it!! She didn’t stop talking about it for days and insisted I at least read the book. Which I have. On my TBR pile. Of course.

Thanks for the reminder about the TBR Challenge, by the way. I would have completely forgotten. Again. Let’s see if I can read and review something by Wednesday, now. *sigh*

  4. Heiress for Hire looks really good. I think I may even own it. I don’t usually care much for kids in books, but I make exceptions for nanny/babysitter stories. I don’t know why, but I really like those types of storylines. I’m glad you liked the book. I’ll have to try it out soon!

  5. Anna – It was very cool. I was looking at the book last week and didn’t buy it. I think I will now! 🙂

Rosie – how did you like the Feehan? Was that the latest Drake sister? What did you think?

Christine – It was wonderful. Amazing!
You can read a book between now and then…I have confidence in you! 🙂

  6. Jenb – It was good. If you don’t mind the babysitter scenario then you might like this one. I probably would have changed the ending but that’s just me! lol

  7. Cool! Before I read Wicked. I loved The Wizard of Oz movie. It’s still one my favorites. But the book is just way more exciting. LOL!

  8. I still haven’t read anything by Sarah McCarty. Her books look really good. One of these days.

I just finished a Sylvia Day book, The Stranger I married. It was pretty darn good.

Are you taking alot of your books with you to RAW to get signed? I took just about all that I owned since we drove! And I got all of them signed. I hope you have a really fun time! 🙂

  9. I am SO VERY EXCITED to live vicariously through you experiencing RAW. Take lots of pictures for us! Ask authors what their DIK books and heroes are! Can’t wait to read your updates.

Everytime WICKED comes to my town, it sells out before I can blink. I didn’t *love* the book, but I really really want to see the musical.

  10. Amy – You should read McCarty – I like her.
No, not taking that many books. I plan on buying some there. All the money from the purchase of the books goes to charity, as you know, so that will be cool.

Ciara – I will be taking a ton of pictures, I’m sure.
Great advice! I’ll definitely be asking them their DIK picks!!

  11. Oh that’s right. Part of the sales last year went to the school district. Lora Leigh gave a small speech at the farewell brunch talking about how little funding the schools in that area get and it was very sad, enough to make you wanna cry.

  12. So I’ve read wicked does that count? No?
KCMO baby that’s where I work YEAH I live in KCK OH YEA!!!

Speaking of which (this has nothing to do with nothing) can you believe I have actually read one of the books on your list Witch way YEP loved that series until about book 4 then I tapered off (think I got burned out b/c I can’t read series back to back and I did with this one never good for me) Anywho schedule is back to normal so YEA me and that’s all

  13. Amy – yep, good cause. Now, should I be bummed that they’re not having a farewell brunch this year? lol

Sarai – glad you’re back to your regular schedule. That sucks when it’s all jacked up. Good to hear that at least the first four in that series are good. 🙂
