What I’ve Been Reading This Week

Hey all!

What a week! Homework has started with a vengeance for my kids, which means for me as well! My first grader has more homework every night than my 5th grader. That’s just wrong!!!

My oldest is back in her “I feel the need to lie about everything” phase. Not that she ever stopped completely but it’s getting really bad. She chose this morning when I was making their lunches to come clean about everything. I’m very happy she came clean but still exhausted from all the lying in the first place. oy! Last night at about 6pm I got comfy on my bed to read while hubby was out with the kids and fell asleep…I didn’t wake up until this morning! I had no idea I was that tired. My hubby said that he almost called the paramedics cuz he couldn’t wake me up but then said I finally told him to leave me alone so he figured I was ok. lol I remember nothing! 🙂

I have to apologize to some people. I’m really bad about getting online or checking my emails in the evenings and on the weekends and sometimes miss things. I’m so sorry if you’ve felt slighted in any way, but that’s the time for my fam and I wouldn’t give it up for the world! I still love you!

With all the homework I’m helping my little one with I didn’t have a whole lot of time to read which is fine. My book shelf is starting to groan from all the books I’ve bought and of course the ones that have been there forever and I haven’t gotten to.

So…those books that I did get to last week:

Walk on the Wild Side by Christine Warren. I liked this addition to her Others series but have to say I thought it was very different from her other books. It looks like her next print book will actually be the first book in the series that has only been available in ebook format until now. Kind of disappointing to not get a new story but oh well.

Next was RAW author Sylvia Day. I read Ask For It which is a historical. I enjoyed the book to a point. There was a lot of mistrust, which due to the story line was understandable I just thought it was taken a little too far. I think I’ll be reading more of her work in the future.

2 novellas I read were Miss January by Madison Hayes and Rock Me by Melody Lane. 2 cute books.

Noah by Jacquelyn Frank was last on the list. This is the last book in the Nightwalker series and I thought it was a good installment. There were a few things about the book I would have changed (like the heroine giggling when she soooo wasn’t the giggling type IMO) but overall I liked it.

Happy Reading!

  1. Hey. My kids started today. I’m pretty exhausted and we haven’t even gotten to the first night of homework! I don’t feel slighted. We just all have RL interfering.

    NICE PILFERED PHOTO!!

  2. LB – oh the horrors of the kids going back to school! Homework sucks! Didn’t we already do all our homework? I guess it never ends. Let me know how it goes for them.

Glad you didn’t feel slighted! 🙂

    Photo – Derek – yum.

  3. Awww, you’re too tired. I’d say rest more, but with school (seriously, I don’t know how much kids can truly learn with the amount of homework these days).

Woo, I’ve been thinking about reading Christine Warren. Must look into it. 😀

  4. KB – yeah I’m fine. You knkow I used to do that a long time ago before kids and I guess life just caught up with me! Thanks for your concern though! 🙂

LA – Yep, just too tired. I feel good today after all that sleep!

  5. So happy you’re okay! That is one thing I have never been able to deny myself…sleep. I am an early sleeper. Never have been good at staying up late and missing out on sleep. I can tell tonight is going to be an early night already :).

You still did manage to get alot read in a week! I’m reading too many different books right now. None of them seem to be all that good to hold my attention before I pick up anther…UGH!

Devin says he will get homework Monday thru Thursday, but so far nothing that takes too long to get finished.

  6. get some rest and don’t worry bout us internets people. 😉

hey, how was that sylvia day book? i think i’ve ready only one by her. how was teh sexxoring? (clearly, i have a one-track mind). recommend, do not recommend?

  7. The whole lying thing is something that I am dealing with at the moment myself. As bad as the lying is, sometimes it is just galling in terms of the subject of the lies – stuff that you would never think of needing to lie about.

Hope you feel better soon! This has been the worst winter for getting sick. I have just come home sick from work as I have a temperature and a sore throat. Just can’t seem to shake the illnesses!

  8. Amy – I think that’s what was so strange about me falling asleep so early…I usually don’t go to bed until 11:30pm. Oh well, I’m all rested now! 🙂
I know the teacher sends my little ones homework home Fri-Fri so that they can take their time with it but if she didn’t give so much she wouldn’t need the extra time!

Sula – The sex in the Sylvia Day book was ok. Not incredibly hot, but ok. I would probably recommend it. I’m thinking of looking into her more recent historicals since this was 2005 or 2006.

Marg – I hope you feel better – that’s horrible that you’re sick!
Yes, they lie about the darndest things! Mine started off the weekend with a lie about pencils. Can you believe it? Who lies about pencils? lol

  9. This is our first full week of school… and dance classes start this week, too. I hate homework. LOL Especially for my little one, since I have to practically sit next to her while she does it to help her stay focused. OMG drives me nuts.

In the book department, I picked up Noah last week, but realized I never bought Damien. Now I’m thinking I shouldn’t have bothered because I think I’ve lost interest in the series. Not so much the story arc–I like that–just the pacing and verbosity. Not sure what I’ll do.

  10. Christine – I almost lost interest in the Nightwalker series after Elijah but I liked Damien a lot and of course Noah. Noah was written completely different from the others IMO…but I think her writing has changed with each book, as well as the books set up. IDK – you may or may not care for it.

  11. Homework = Blech! Mine or my kids. I remember K-3 was the pits because they are becoming readers and it wasn’t enough to read TO them you have to sit through 20 minutes of them reading to you. Ho-lee hell! They did get better, of course, but some nights during 1st grade I wanted to stick my head in the oven.

My sister has a first grader too and she was complaining about him having more homework than her 5th grader as well. WTF?? That’s just nuts.

  12. you have to sit through 20 minutes of them reading to you. Ho-lee hell!
OMG Rosie ROFLMAO! That is sooooo it! Sometimes I think if I have to sit through Nan’s Fat Cat or The Cat Sat one more time I’ll explode! But she’s so cute while she’s doing it I stop myself! 🙂
