Kris‘ review of Die for Me by Karen Rose

COME TO ME
The first victim is found in a snow-covered Philadelphia field. Detective Vito Ciccotelli enlists the aid of archaeologist Sophie Johannsen to determine exactly what lies beneath the frozen ground. Despite years of unearthing things long buried, nothing can prepare Sophie for the matrix of graves dug with chilling precision. The victims buried there haunt her. But the empty graves terrify her-the killer isn’t done yet.

SCREAM FOR ME
He is cold and calculating, the master of a twisted game. Even with Vito and Sophie hot on his trail, he will not stop. One more empty grave must be filled, and one last scream must be heard-the scream of an archaeologist who is too close for comfort and too near to resist…

DIE FOR ME

I really enjoyed this one. It was a great romantic suspense. The characters were very good and interesting to watch.

Sophie has had a difficult life in that her mom was crappy and her first love was a jerk and was, unbeknownst to her, married. But she has made the most of it and loves being an archeologist but right now she is not doing archeology. She works at a small museum where she helps with the exhibits and occasionally has to give tours dressed in armor or period costumes, which she finds humiliating. She gets called it assist with a case because she has access to an underground imager that they use in archeology. Detective Ciccotelli (Chick) wants to use it to see if there are more people buried in a field that has been discovered. There are, plus some graves that have yet to be filled.

There is an attraction between Vito and Sophie that is instant and they keep getting thrown together because of this case. And later (of course, because this is a suspense book) Sophie becomes a target for the killer.

Sophie had a lot of pride and it bugged her every time she had to dress up, that bugged me a little, but by the end of the book she started making the most of her job and having fun with it, that redeemed her a lot for me.

This was a very good book, if you like romantic suspense, then you will like it a lot. The storytelling kept me guessing and the ending was very good. The next book is called Scream For Me and is a continuation of this book. So it is helpful to read them in order. It was very good as well, I just finished it today, but that is for another review. I give this book a:

4 out of 5
