Thoughts on Breaking Dawn

Warning: Spoilers

Let me start off by saying I really liked this book. I think I’m in the minority but there it is. I pretty much thought that it went along well with the others in the series. All of them were filled with emotions and a little bit of action…this one followed suit IMO.There were a few things I had issues with…The whole Jacob/Renesmee thing put a whole new meaning to the word ick at first until I really got used the idea. But it also put an abrupt end to the whole Team Edward/Team Jacob thing which I was extremely glad about. I have always been Team Edward and always looked at Jacob and Bella as just good friends.

Bella…post transformation…where she couldn’t hardly drive a car with power at the beginning of the book – she was now speeding with her lights off. Where she freaked about the black credit card – now she was ok with the money thing. Where she had an issue with clothes before – now she was wearing cashmere dresses, etc. I just felt like we lost a little bit of Bella there. Now granted, she did turn into a vampire here so I cut her a little slack. Also her control over her newborn status. I wish it was a little more like the other vamps had been…I felt she had too much control. But that’s me.I was wonderfully happy when the choice whether to turn vamp or not was pretty much taken out of Bella’s hands. She was being a little wishy-washy with the whole I want/I don’t want so was glad when Edward just did it. Turn Vamp or die is a good enough reason for me!I’ve read a few reviews (on Amazon I think) who think it was all wrapped up too tightly at the end – but come on – it’s YA fiction! No harsh realities of life here! lol And haven’t Edward and Bella been through enough crap? They deserve their HEA and I for one am glad they got it! Lol It was a very long book and yes as you see there were a few things I didn’t like but overall I thought it was a most enjoyable read.
So…give me your thoughts.

  1. Jeez, I always knew you were an odd duck. This just confirms it.

    LOL J/K

I do see your point, and agree with you to an extent. I just really feel like Meyer took the easy way out w/ this novel. I would have liked to see her explore some of those earlier morality issues/angsty things more. But, it is what it is, right?

  2. I’m terrified to read this book. I’ve really enjoyed the series so far, and the reviews have almost uniformly been not just bad, but to steal a word from JenB, WRETCHED. I’m just not sure I can take it if the book ends up making me mad or gives me an ending I don’t believe.

SIGH. I bought it for my niece, so I guess sooner or later I’ll borrow it. I haven’t spoken to her about it yet, so I haven’t heard from the “target” demographic (she’s 15).

  3. Breaking Dawn = WTF???
Bring back the honeymoon for 500 more pages and I would have been a happy camper.
I must say I adore Jacob. I am on team Jacob now for Bell… oh wait Jacob has a thing for a new character that is a bit icky IMO

  4. Odd duck? You know it baby! haha!

Holly – I guess I was looking forward to the book but never really was thinking what I hoping to see. I was definitely looking at it from a teen perspective and knew that nothing horrid was going to happen to Edward as some people thought *coughKBcough* 🙂 That’s what I love about books and discussions about books is that we all have a different point of view on the same subject matter. If we all thought the same thing we’d be clones! 🙂

MK – You should definitely read it eventually.

KB – Jacob – like a brother to Bella! no Team Jacob anymore! Makes me happy!

  5. Bella and Jacob- incest is best?
And how will Jacob explain to you know who abou this lurve for Bella in a few years.. oh wait, growth problem here… in a week? LOL

  6. I guess I’m an odd duck too LOL! Cause really enjoyed Breaking Dawn. After I finished reading it I read some reviews and was a bit surprised of how many disliked it. But what really got me was coming across a few that were on the edge of bashing the author and book. I thought fine don’t like the book but have some respect.

I’ve always been Team Edward too. 🙂

  7. So I won’t read it *ducks* I mean come on I couldn’t finish Eclipse and I love YA to a point. Ms. Myer just took it too far I think. But then again I only like teenagers in small doses like 90 minutes tops!

So after reading the reviews I deteremined it would just piss me off (that was really the whole point of this late post. Sorry!)
