Shomi Love

I’m very much a “comfort zone” reader. It takes a lot to get me to move out of my comfort zone of favorite authors/sub-genres. This year I told myself it was time to break away from that and try new things. I’ve had some success with that. I’ve tried some new-to-me authors and read a couple of books I didn’t think I’d care for based on the characters/story-lines.

When Dorchester first announced it’s Shomi line, I remember reading some of the blurbs and thinking they sounded pretty good, but not really thinking they sounded good enough for me to read. It’s funny, because I’ve always said I’m not really a big fan of Urban Fantasy/Sci-Fi, but that’s not really true. The truth is, every Urban Fantasy and/or Sci-Fi novel I’ve read to date I really enjoyed. I honestly can’t remember one I didn’t like. It’s not my preferred reading choice, or the first thing I pick up at the store, but for me to say I don’t care for it isn’t really true.

With both of those things in mind, I decided it was time to try Shomi. A lot of the novels have gotten many positive reviews; Eve Kenin’s Driven and Hidden in particular have been raved about.

But…well, I’ve never been one to do things alone. So I decided, shoot, why not encourage others to try the Shomi line with me?” Then I thought, hey, why not round up some people who have tried the Shomi line and get them in here to talk about why it’s so great? Then I figured, hell, I might as well go all out and just do a full spotlight.

So that’s what we’re going to do. August has officially been named the month of Shomi here at Book Binge. Sez me (heh). I challenge all of you who’ve yet to try something from the Shomi line to go for it. Step out of your comfort zone, pick up one of the books and try it. And be sure to stick around for the rest of the month, we’ve got all kinds of fun stuff planned. Guest visits, excerpts, giveaways.

  1. That sounds like a great idea. I haven’t read any of these personally, but Kenin’s books are on my Amazon wishlist. And Netherwood sounds like something I’d really enjoy as well. Plus I have a whole bunch of GC’s to use up.

Holly, I think it’s great that you’re going to spotlight the Shomi line 🙂 I actually have a couple in my tbr pile… I guess it’s time to dig them up and get started reading *bg*

I choose to accept this mission, and think I’ll seek out a Kenin and a Maddox…reporting at a later date!

  4. I love, love, love this line in fact I have read: Drive, Hidden, Wired and Netherwood. Really liked all the above. Dying to try Time Transit, Twist, Countdown and Moongazer. Great idea!

  5. The best thing Dorchester did was start the Shomi line. I have a bunch of reads from them I want to try, including the Michelle Maddox one 😀
Great idea for a post, Holly! 😀

  6. I loved Driven by Eve Kenin and I’m looking forward to reading Hidden. Time Transit by Kay Austin was a big DNF for me. I just couldn’t get into it at all.
The Shomi line overall seems promising and I’ll continue looking for titles/authors that interest me.

  7. I’ve read 3 of them so far and loved each one – Driven, Hidden and Countdown. I have an ARC of Razor Girl too I really need to give a read of.
I’m glad you’re doing this cause there really are some good reads in this line aren’t there?

  8. I really do like the Shomi line. So far I’ve read Twist, Countdown (freakin’ awesome!) and Hidden and loved all three. Can’t wait to read more of the Shomi books! 🙂

    You’re on baby!

Never read any Shomi books (Driven has been sitting on my TBR for months now) but I got Razor Girl too so I am reading that next!

  10. I’ve got all of those books you listed except TIME TRANSIT on my bookshelf. I’ve read DRIVEN, HIDDEN and WIRED.

I love the whole idea behind Shomi. Action adventures that are a bit scientific/futuristic with a touch of romance that we all love. I also think its refreshing to see graphic covers like these sprinkled on the romance shelves. I personally love the look.
