Scream For Me

Special Agent Daniel Vartanian has sworn to find the perpetrator of multiple killings that mimic a 13-year-old murder linked to a collection of photographs that belonged to his brother, Simon, the ruthless serial killer who met his demise in DIE FOR ME. Daniel is certain that someone even more depraved than his brother committed these crimes, and he’s determined to bring the current murderer to justice and solve the mysterious crime from years ago.

With only a handful of images as a lead, Daniel’s search will lead him back through the dark past of his own family, and into the realm of a mind more sinister than he could ever imagine. But his quest will also draw him to Alex Fallon, a beautiful nurse whose troubled past reflects his own. As Daniel becomes attached to Alex, he discovers that she is also the object of the obsessed murderer. Soon, he will not only be racing to discover the identity of this macabre criminal, but also to save the life of the woman he has begun to love.

I freaking love Karen Rose. Love her. She’s another one of those authors that keeps getting better with each book.

Scream For Me picks up right where Die For Me left off. Like right where it left off. Daniel Vartanian has just returned to Georgia from Philadelphia, where the reign of terror that was Simon Vartanian ended. At least that was what Daniel thought. Upon his arrival home, he’s put in charge of a murder investigation that is eerily similar to one that occur ed in Dutton, 13 years before. Dutton is where Daniel grew up and the place, he is learning, that is home to more than just one deviant mind. Daniel is soon able to link his current case with the case that has long since closed. And, although he hoped that death brought an end to the evil that was his brother, he soon learns otherwise.

Alex Fallon has returned to Dutton for her niece, whom she never knew existed. Having left Dutton 13 years before after her twin sister was brutally murdered, Alex hoped that she would never have to return. That was before she received a call that her stepsister was missing and that Alex was listed as an emergency contact for Bailey’s daughter, Hope. Arriving in the town that she has tried so hard to forget, Alex wants to believe that the current murders have nothing to do with Alicia’s death so many years before. Though she knew that she had many unresolved issues from her childhood, Alex isn’t prepared for the secrets that begin to be revealed after she arrives.

Together Daniel and Alex work to uncover how the current murders relate to Alicia’s murder over a decade before. While Alex understands and appreciates the need to uncover every lead, she also knows that the longer that Bailey is missing, the more unlikely it is that she’ll turn up alive. Then Daniel discovers that the murders and Bailey’s disappearance are not unrelated. He just doesn’t know why Bailey was taken. All he has is a traumatized four year old girl who won’t speak and will only color with red crayon.

Scream For Me is another excellent romantic suspense by Karen Rose. I’ve always thought that she’s done a great job of balancing the romance and the suspense. This book is no exception. In some romantic suspense books, the romance can tend to be unbelievable, yet that’s not the case here. The romance between Alex and Daniel enhanced the suspense and made the book even better.
