A Year of Acheron Book Commercial Released

Posted July 22, 2008 by Holly in Promotions | 9 Comments

I received Sherrilyn Kenyon’s newsletter yesterday and it included a link for her new book commercial. I’m not exactly sure how I feel about it. On the one hand, it makes the novel sound intriguing. On the other hand, it’s rather dark and SK doesn’t really do dark. Plus, Ash looks scary and that’s not at all how I picture him. So..I’m on the fence.

What do you think?

I’m also kind of wondering why they’re calling it a book commercial? Any thoughts or ideas?

  1. Well….

I’m an oddity around these here parts–I tried two books by her, kept the one, traded in the other at the UBS, and have no desire whatsoever to try anything else by her.

    Hey!

    *wink*

  2. That is not at all how I pictured him either! It is just totally wrong. But then, I have issues when they turn my characters into movies…they never turn out quite how I think they should.

  3. I haven’t read these books for a long time, but the commercial is interesting. They clearly put some money into it; that doesn’t look like some random stock video footage. It looks more like some kind of 300-esque movie. The way some of the effects are done remind me of 300.

That being said, I’m not a big fan of book trailers period, probably because rarely have they connected with me and made me interested in a book. It’s only one way to interpret a book when readers will interpret the same book in many different ways.

The only time a trailer makes sense to me is when it is for an actual movie based on a dang book.

  4. If you get Sherrilyn Kenyon’s newsletter, she covers those points in today’s issue. If you’re interested I’ll try to post the salient points later.

  5. I got the newsletter, Kerry, but haven’t read it yet. I’m glad she clears some of it up. Let me know if you have a chance to post about it. ;0)

It will intrigue those unfamiliar with the series, I think, and I’m sure that’s the goal. I’m just not sure the book will satisfy the audience attracted by this commercial…unless it is way different than the previous books.

Ok, I didn’t like it at all.
The actor playing Ash was all wrong. I doubt it will get new readers interested in it.

Still, I’m going to inhale the book!
