Pursuit

A shocking betrayal…her father’s murder…and a life-threatening accusation…Heiress Charlotte Court has walked into a waking nightmare-one that sends her running from her wealthy home to anywhere she can hide.

Across the border in Mexico, Charlotte creates a new identity and finds refuge in the battle-torn arms of Navy SEAL Matt Sanders. Fleeing his past, Matt yearns to protect her and replace her pain with pleasure. But Charlotte can’t trust anyone, not even someone she’s starting to love. She knows she’s a target-and out of sight, a soulless killer is zeroing in on his prey…

After she walks in on her father being murdered, Charlotte Court is forced to go on the run. With little resources and no one she can trust, Charlotte has no other plan but to flee her hometown and the man that would like to see her dead. Injured and alone, she stays at the seediest motels she can find while instinctively heading south. Arriving in San Luis, Baja, Charlotte gets her first break since she first went on the run. Accepting help from a woman who wants nothing in return, Elizabeth feels safe for the first time in weeks.

Navy SEAL Matt Sanders heads to San Luis after almost dying in Afghanistan. A broken man, Matt has no plans for his life. All he wants is to recover from the wounds that have almost killed him. He first sees Charlotte on the day he took to the ocean to start healing. Day after day he goes to the beach and swims, all the while this guardian angel is watching over him. When the finally meet face-to-face, Matt knows that she’s running. He also knows that he won’t let anything happen to this woman that probably saved his life.

I really enjoyed this book. While the suspense aspect was shaky, it wasn’t horrible. I loved the love story. It was true romance between Matt and Charlotte. They were both wounded souls who came together to heal. There’s a scene at the beach when they first see each other that literally made me tear up. It was just such a poignant scene that I had to re-read it several times. The characters are what made this book as good as it was.

Overall, I really enjoyed it.

4 out of 5.
