Book Cover

If I was ever to be a rabid fangirl, Nalini Singh would be responsible. Not only is her Psy/Changeling series amazing, but she’s also one of the nicest people you could meet.

Hostage to Pleasure is the story of Dorian. Ah, Dorian. *sigh*

Though this book won’t be released until September 2, 2008, Nalini is running an ARC contest. You can enter here.

Nalini also has the most awesomest author website. Check out the blurb and first champter of Hostage to Pleasure here.

So who else is as crazy about this series as I am?

Review: Lessons from a Courtesan by Jenna Petersen.

Posted June 26, 2008 by Rowena in Reviews | 12 Comments

Publisher: Avon, Harper Collins

Hero: Justin Talbot, Earl of Baybary.
Heroine: Victoria “Ria” Reed
Grade: 4.75 out of 5

Lesson #1: Every man loves a mystery.

A scandalous siren called “Ria” has electrified the ton. Every gentleman in London desires her; every woman envies her. And they are all desperate to know the secrets of the tantalizing, seductively beautiful courtesan. All except Justin, the Earl of Baybary. He knows all about Ria. He learned every inch of her tender skin, every taste of her luscious lips . . . on their wedding night.

Lesson #2: No man can make you lose control . . . unless you let him.

Though theirs was an arranged marrige, still Victoria surrendered to passion and gave herself to Justin completely. When he left her alone the next morning, she swore she would never again let him into her bed. Now, though she has other reasons for returning to the city, she enjoys tormenting Justin, letting him see the way other men lust for her. But keeping herself from him is such exquisite torture . . . and forgiveness will lead to an ecstasy unbelievably divine.

What a fanfrickintastic book!

I have been waiting anxiously for this book to come out and I’m so glad that I was finally able to get my grubby paws on it and read it. I read it in record time. Holly and Daphne can attest to the emotions that Jenna Petersen brought out in me. When I first started this book, I was so pissed off at the hero for doing the heroine dirty.

You see, this book revolves around the one thing we, romance readers detest in our heroes. Cheating. None of us likes for our heroes to cheat but in this book, the hero did in fact cheat. Several times. After reading about this in the beginning of the book, I couldn’t stand it and I didn’t think that I could finish reading the book because of that but I pushed forward and was rewarded with a fantastically written story about a married couple finding their way back to each other after secrets tear them apart.

I enjoyed the heck out of this book.

It was a refreshing story and I really, really enjoyed it. I loved that Victoria was mad at Justin for his infidelities and I really enjoyed that she didn’t let him into her heart easily. I enjoyed that Justin came around slowly to falling in love with Victoria and didn’t rush into his feelings. I enjoyed Caleb and Marah. I enjoyed Shaw and seriously, I just enjoyed everything in this book.

It takes a great writer to make me love a hero after cheating on the heroine and Jenna Petersen did a fantastic job of sucking me in with this story and making me forgive Justin for his shortcomings. She had me pissed to high heaven, she had me sighing with delight and she had me laughing up a storm. All these emotions makes for an entertaining and quite an engaging read.

What are you waiting for? Go on and get this book and see if JP does a great job making YOU forgive Justin…she totally did for me so now it’s your turn.

Go forth and get this book and read it, it’s good, I promise!

Audio Books

Posted June 26, 2008 by Holly in Discussions | 9 Comments

I’ve recently been in the market for some audio books. Right now I commute to work (about an hour one way) and since I have a MP3 jack in my car, I wanted an audio book to put on my iPod that I could listen to on my way to/from work (and even at work). But I’m really disgusted at the pricing. I mean, I realize audio books have always been much more expensive than regular print books, and even eBooks, but I don’t understand why an audio download is $17-$25. One of life’s little mysteries, eh?

Since I’m not about to pay that price, I’m appealing to all of you. Can you recommend a good site to purchase discount audio book downloads? I’m somewhat confused (I’m a total newbie here) about the “membership” programs some sites office.

Audible, for example, is running a special right now. If you join now, the first three months is only $7.49 and you receive one download credit a month. I see there’s a note that some books are more than one credit, which means what, exactly? The site isn’t very clear on exactly what you receive with your membership. Is it that you get one discounted book a month and then any other book is full price? If so, how is that a savings? I mean, if I buy 5 books a month from them and only get one free…well, I’m still spending about $100 a month for four books. That so isn’t worth paying a monthly fee, too.

Am I better off just ordering CD’s from eBay and my used bookstore? Have any suggestions? I really want to make use of all that time I spend in the car.

Lightning Reviews: Shiloh Walker (Part I)

Posted June 26, 2008 by Casee in Reviews | 1 Comment

Good Girls Don't

Lori has a nice, safe job and a nice, safe fiancé. She has played it safe most of her life. Until she finds that nice, safe fiancé in bed with another woman. But the ultimate betrayal is that he is willing to play sexy bedroom games with the neighbor that he wouldn’t play with Lori, no matter how often she asked. She kicks him out of her bed, out of her house, and out of her life. Now she’s ready to make her fantasies come true. She starts at Exposé, a sex club where anything goes.

Mike has been attracted to Lori since moving in next door. She is taken though, and even if she were free, she’s not his type. Too sweet, too innocent, too nice. So what in hell is she doing at Exposé? He doesn’t know, but he’s determined to protect her from the other guys in the club…and from himself. Determined to protect her even if it means bringing her pain.

By the time Mike realizes Lori doesn’t want or need to be protected, it’s almost too late.

After she finds her fiancé in bed with another woman, Lori decides to go to Exposé, the sex club that she’s always been curious about. It’s there that she sees Mike, her neighbor. Though she’s never thought of him in a sexual light, now she’s looking at him in a whole different way. Mike uncovers things about her sexuality that she had no idea existed. Then, after one hot weekend together, Mike abruptly pulls away from Lori. Now, she’s not only lost the lover that had just begun to show her what she wants, but the friend that she’s had for the past several years.

I liked this book, but it lost me at the end. The now ex-fiancé ended up being a psychopath. What made it work was Mike figured out what an idiot he was being before Lori was almost killed. So at least it wasn’t the “I almost lost her and can’t live without her” epiphany that you sometimes see.

Her Wildest Dreams

Timid and shy, in her wildest dreams, Allie never imagined Alex would look at her with anything more than friendship and maybe a little pity in his eyes.

One horrible night Allie is attacked and Alex comes rushing to her rescue.
He wonders if he is really needed when he finds a little hellcat fighting off her attacker. Much later that night, Alex holds that little hellcat in his arms.

Months later, he runs into Allie again and he barely recognizes her. She’s no longer the shy little wallflower she had once been.

Problem is…she doesn’t seem to want to have anything to do with him. Allie’s about to find out that Alex is the only man guaranteed to make her wildest dreams come true.

Allie is Mike’s sister from Good Girls Don’t.

I really liked Allie. When she realized how miserable she was with her life, she changed it. She didn’t cry and whine about how horrible things were. She changed what made her unhappy and found who she truly was.

After an unforgettable night six months before, Alex still dreams about Allie every night. Since he’s avoided her since that night, he is not prepared for the woman she’s become. When he sees her again, he knows that he won’t let her go. Yet again, Shiloh takes what could become a cliche (man sees transformed woman and falls in love) and makes it work. Alex wanted Allie before he saw the changes in her. It’s the change in her that makes him realize that if he doesn’t step up and show her he wants her, he’ll lose her forever.
