Life is reasonably rosy for plus-size ex-pop star turned Assistant Dormitory Director and sometime sleuth Heather Wells. Her freeloading ex-con dad is finally moving out. She still yearns for her hot landlord, Cooper Cartwright, but her relationship with "rebound beau," vigorous vegan math professor Tad Tocco, is more than satisfactory.

Best of all, nobody has died lately in "Death Dorm," the aptly nicknamed student residence that Heather assistant-directs. Of course every silver lining ultimately has some black cloud attached. And when the latest murdered corpse to clutter up her jurisdiction turns out to be her exceedingly unlovable boss, Heather finds herself on the shortlist of prime suspects—along with the rabble-rousing boyfriend of her high-strung student assistant and an indecently handsome young campus minister who's been accused of taking liberties with certain girls' choir members.

With fame beckoning her back into show business (as the star of a new kids' show!) it's a really bad time to get wrapped up in another homicide. Plus Tad's been working himself up to ask her a Big Question, which Heather's not sure she has an answer for . . .

It’s gonna be really hard to review this book without spoiling the heck out of it for you so I’m warning you now, this review is going to be ripe with spoilers so if you’re wanting to read these books (this is book #3) and you don’t want me to spoil the books, then probably you should not read this review until after you’ve read the books.

You’ve been warned.

Seriously, if you don’t want to know what happens in the book (the good juicy bits) then you need to move the party train along.

No joke.

Alright, that’s enough with the warnings, now on with the review.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book which didn’t surprise me one bit since this is a Meg Cabot book and I’m practically her #1 fan, on this site anyway. Meg Cabot fangirl, yeah that’s me.

This book starts off with yet another death at Death Dorm, who just happens to be Heather’s new boss, Dr. Veatch. The boss that Heather didn’t care for and though this is like the same bat channel and same bat time, the difference this time around is Heather is a suspect. HA! Things are different around Heather’s world right now because her Dad is moving out of her and Cooper’s house, she’s got herself a man (because Cooper doesnt’ want to be her rebound guy) and Jordan is going to be a DAD! I know, shock of all shocks, huh?

We see the same characters come back from the last book, like Sarah the grad student worker, Heather’s old boss Tom, Heather’s Dad, Gavin McGoren and I love Gavin just as much in this book as I did in the last book. There’s just something about Gavin that I can’t help but love. His adoration of Heather, the way he has complete faith in her and his sense of humor. Goodness, the scenes that Gavin is in always has me in fits of giggles. He’s such a cutie patootie.

It was so good that Cooper still played a big part of this book which means that he’s still a big part of Heather’s life. The whole Cooper and Heather thing had my heart sighing all over the dang place and I am totally happy with the way that came about. All I can say is:

ITS ABOUT DAMN TIME!

I love me some Cooper Cartwright and hair hairy hands and muscle-y arms and his manly physique, his unkempt hair and just everything, he’s the total package and I just love him to death. LOVE LOVE LOVE HIM! The whole crush that Heather has on Cooper is totally felt by me, I totally know how she feels and I’m crushing on Cooper right alongside Heather throuhgout this whole series, so it did my heart good when they finally did the damn thing, I was one happy camper because this book is just effing great.

This book follows Heather as she plows right into the case that Cooper tells her to stay far away from. It was good to see that Heather hadn’t changed much in the way that she still doesn’t listen to Cooper and still needs to be rescued by Cooper and the jealousy we see from Cooper with Tad (Heather’s boyfriend) and Heather adds the right amount of AWWWWWWW to the whole story. The secondary characaters were fantastic and even though the mystery behind who killed Dr. Veatch was totally obvious right from the jump, I still enjoyed this book quite a bit. I really recommend this series because it’s light, fluffy and cute.

Good stuff, kudos to Meg Cabot on another job well done. I really want to read the popular book she’s got out, the one about being popular or whatever…that looks good too.

  1. The only thing that I don`t understand is why cooper and heather live in the same house if they are apart? Did heather have a relationship with jordan too? I didn`t read other books of meg cabot. I only read big boned so maybe thats why I have some questions.

  2. Rowena

    Hey Rana,

Yes, Heather and Jordan used to be sweethearts and then Jordan left Heather for Tonya. Cooper helped Heather out in her time of need and refused to be her rebound guy from his brother so even though there were sparks between them, he never acted on them because of her past with Jordan….but I was so glad when they finally got together, they’re too cute.

You should definitely read the other books in the series, it’s really good.

  3. thanks so much, but I actually asked for the inside of the book on internet. I live in Turkey and we have many book stores which sell the books of many american authors like meg cabot. But thank u for trying to help me:D where do u live in America?

  4. For some reason, throughout the entire series I was hoping Cooper would come to his senses and get together with Heather. And in this book it finally happened and I’m no longer excited. It just seemed so… fake – like he was only using her. I really need some closure on this Cooper and Heather relationship. I can’t wait until the next addition to the series.
