Little Known Favorites

I was tagged for this by Dance Chica. I’m sort of bummed about it, to be honest, because I somehow managed to avoid getting tagged for the last 5 or so meme’s going around. Stupid DC, breaking my streak! Rules: List and describe three of your favorite books that other people might not be familiar with. Then tag five people.

I planned to tag Izzy and Ween, so that knocks out two people..and since we’re all a big happy fam here, we’re just doing it together.

Kiss An Angel by Susan Elizabeth Phillips. How did pretty, flighty Daisy Devreaux find herself in this fix? She can either go to jail or marry the mystery man her father has chosen for her. Alex Markov, however, has no intention of playing the loving bridegroom to a spoiled little featherhead with champagne tastes. As humorless as he is deadly handsome, he drags the irrepressible Daisy away from her uptown life and sets out to tame her.

Except it won’t be as easy as he thinks. This man without a soul has met a woman who’s nothing but heart. Will vows spoken in haste shatter . . . or offer the promise of love everlasting?

Lions Bride by Iris Johansen. Woven with searing sensuality, here is the unforgettable story of a woman who is carried away by a powerful Lord to a secret stronghold, where she becomes his prisoner, his tormentor…and his lover.

I loved the setting and the pacing of this. A definite must read.

The Return of Eden McCall by Judith Duncan. When her father is taken ill, a divorced young mother brings her daughter home to an old Canadian town and is forced to confront her old sweetheart, now a successful businessman. Ms. Duncan takes this favorite plotline and makes something fresh and wonderful out of it, creating powerful and unforgettable characterizations that leave no corner of the heart untouched.

I still pick this up at least twice a year to read it. I love dynamics of the couple and the emotions they invoke in each other. Cheesy? Maybe. But definitely entertaining.

Alright, let’s see. I tag:

Dylan
Isabel
Daphne
Chantal
Ames

Izzy

So I was tagged by Nath and Holly. Thanks ladies. This one was kind of hard. Geez.

1) As Always Jack: A Wartime Love Story by Emma Sweeney

This is a true story. It’s about the author finding her deceased father’s love letter to her mom. The second part of the book are the letter he wrote while stationed overseas. You read about the love blossoming between Jack and Beebe.

I laughed, I got misty eyed, I got excited and felt warm and fuzzy after finishing the book. Jack was just the sweetest guy and he was real people.

2.Where Dreams Begin by Lisa Kleypas.

Zachary Bronson has built an empire of wealth and power — now he needed a wife to help secure his position in society…and warm his bed in private. But not just any woman will do for a man whom all of London knows is not a gentleman. Then he unexpectedly swept Lady Holly Taylor into his arms for an unasked for — but very alluring — kiss, and suddenly he knew he had found a woman whose fierce passions matched his own.

Lady Holly Taylor was beautiful, generous, and, as a widow, destined to spend her life playing by society’s rules, even when they went against her bolder instincts. But Zachary’s kiss had aroused her, and though the shocking offer he made didn’t include marriage, she was compelled to risk everything and follow him to the place where dreams begin.

I forgot how much I enjoyed this book. It was one of my first Lisa Kleypas books and I fell in love with Zack. He is a good a hero as Derek is.

3) To Tame a Highland Warrior by Karen Marie Moning

I don’t think this book gets a lot of love. I mean, it’s either for the MacKeltar twins or for Adam Black. Grimm deserves some lovin’ too.

Only her love could gentle his savage soul–He was born to a clan of warriors of supernatural strength, but Gavrael McIllioch abandoned his name and his Highland castle, determined to escape the dark fate of his ancestors. Hiding his identity from the relentless rival clan that hunted him, he called himself Grimm to protect the people he cared for, vowing never to acknowledge his love for ravishing Jillian St. Clair. Yet even from afar he watched over her, and when her father sent an urgent summons, “Come for Jillian,” he raced to her side–into a competition to win her hand in marriage. Why had he run from her so many years before? And why return now to see her offered as a prize in her father’s manipulative game? Furious, Jillian vowed never to wed. But Grimm was the man she loved, the one who urged her to marry another. He tried to pretend indifference as she tempted him, but he could not deny the fierce desires that compelled him to abduct her from the altar. She was the only woman who could tame the beast that raged within him–even as deadly enemies plotted to destroy them both….

And now it’s Wena’s Turn…
Alright, Holly told me about this a few days ago and I thought it’d be easy to just shoot off some of my favorites but it’s a lot harder than I thought it’d be but here’s my list of 3 little known favorites…

1. Lady Be Good by Susan Elizabeth Phillips.

A British Lady

Lady Emma Wells-Finch, the oh-so-proper headmistressof England’s St. Gertrude’s School for Girls, is a woman on a mission—she has two weeks to lose her reputation. Arriving in Texas with skirts flying, umbrella pointing, and beautiful mouth issuing orders, she knows only one thing will save her from losing everything she holds dear: complete and utter disgrace!

A Texas Rascal

World-famous playboy-athlete Kenny Traveler has kickedup his boot heels one too many times, and now he’s suspended from the sport he loves. Only one thing will restore his career:complete and utter respectability! Unfortunately, he’s been blackmailed into chauffeuring bossy, single-minded Lady Emma, and she’s hell-bent on visiting honkytonks, chasing down tattoo parlors, and worse.. lots worse.

Love, All-American Style

When a gorgeous man who can’t afford another scandal meets a hardheaded woman who’s determined to cause one, anything can happen. But love? Oh, dear. That’s impossible. That’s outrageous. That’s… inevitable!

I read this book for the first time a few years ago and oh goodness, I laughed so much and so hard while reading it too. I loved Kenny’s sense of humor, his laziness and the way he fell for hardheaded Emma, love love LOVE this book. But nobody seems to love it as much as I do but that’s okay, I love enough for everyone.

2. Double Standards by Judith McNaught.

In the exclusive, glittering world of business superstars, Nick Sinlair was a legend…

The ruggedly handsome president of Global Industries handled his business the way he handled his women-with charm, daring, and ruthless self-control. A man used to the very best, Nick hired Lauren Danner, and assumed that the proud beauty would soon be another easy conquest. But Laura’s flashing wit and rare spirit dazzle him-and slowly, against his will, he was intrigued, challenged-and in love.

Yet Lauren was living a lie, a charade that became more dangerous with every passing moment. Trapped in a web of deceit, she fought her growing love for Nick. Her secret could destroy his fragile trust-and the promise of life with the most compelling man she had ever met!

This is a book that hardly anyone ever likes, including my friends here at Book Binge but I totally love this book. I love the whole storyline and I love Nicholas Sinclair…this book totally rocks my socks, over and over again…shut up Holly! =)

3. Love, Rosie by Cecelia Ahern.

Sometimes you have to look at life in a whole new way . . .

From the bestselling author of PS, I Love You comes a delightfully enchanting novel about what happens when two people who are meant to be together just can’t seem to get it right.

Rosie and Alex are destined for one another, and everyone seems to know it but them. Best friends since childhood, their relationship gets closer by the day, until Alex gets the news that his family is leaving Dublin and moving to Boston. At 17, Rosie and Alex have just started to see each other in a more romantic light. Devastated, the two make plans for Rosie to apply to colleges in the U.S. She gets into Boston University, Alex gets into Harvard, and everything is falling into place, when on the eve of her departure, Rosie gets news that will change their lives forever: She’s pregnant by a boy she’d gone out with while on the rebound from Alex. Her dreams for college, Alex, and a glamorous career dashed, Rosie stays in Dublin to become a single mother, while Alex pursues a medical career and a new love in Boston. But destiny is a funny thing, and in this novel, structured as a series of clever e-mails, letters, notes, and a trail of missed opportunities, Alex and Rosie find out that fate isn’t done with them yet.

This book had me enraptured right from the very beginning and I loved this book to pieces, but nobody has ever really gushed about it before…you guys should really read this book, it’s a great great book and gives new meaning to the saying, sometimes you gotta get things wrong before you get them right.

So there you have it, all of our little known favorites, books that we love that hardly anyone else really gets, but we do and we love them so you should totally check out the books we read and loved, you guys never know…you might end up loving these books just as much as we do!

No more tagging from me…=)

  1. I should have known you’d list DS as one of yours, Ween. I’m not even going to rib you for it, isn’t that sweet of me? lol

  2. Chantal

*Sigh* All this time I thought you liked me. You had to go and burst my bubble by tagging me.

    😉

  3. LOL!!! So finally some books that I know of!!! ;D

Holly – is the SEP the one with the circus? If yes, I remember reading it and went meh… but then, for some reasons, I’m not a huge fan of SEP… The other two are unknown to me… Iris Johansen is writing mystery nowadays right? (don’t like her mysteries either ^^;) and I bet hte last one is like impossible to find LOL 😀

Isabel – I read Where Deams Begin 😀 I do prefer Derek though 😀 I know of the Highland series by Karen Marie Moning… but haven’t read them 😛

Rowena – I actually love Double Standards 😀 although it’s quite an oldie and I think that’s why ppl don’t like it as much 😛 there’s just something for me about an heroine sacrificing for hero, hero doesn’t realize it and treat her like shit and when he realizes, have to come back groveling 😛

  4. Kiss An Angel is probably the only SEP that I liked but I thought Alex was a jerk so I loved the grovel at the end. Sometimes you have to read for the grovel 😉

Nath – you should track down some of Iris Johansen’s older romances – high drama and the evil people are truly evil – I can’t remember the names of the books but one scene was so bad I was ill for a week! But, the romance parts were drama and sometimes you need some drama 😉

I’m thinking of ordering As always, Jack cause it sounds sweet.

The Moning – is that a true historical or one of her time travels – I think she might work for me if it’s a historical.

Double Standards is the best McNaught EVER!!! Sorry Holly but the scene with the pill box – tears I’m telling ya!

I’m ordering Love, Rosie tonight – although they don’t have to wait until their 60 right? Cause that would blow!

    CindyS

  5. Ugh, that whole pill box thing didn’t even make sense. He’d already tried giving her a gift, his mama’s pearl earings, so it didn’t wash for me. LOL

    Nath,
Yes IJ is writing suspense now, but her older historicals are awesome. What Cindy said. 🙂

  6. Rowena

    Oh Holly SHUT UP! LOL.

Nath, I totally agree! I loved the whole pill box thing, how that was the thing he gave his Mom to buy her love and how he wanted to and cared enough to do the same thing with Lauren, I thought was SO sweet! I love me some Nicholas Sinclair!

    Cindy, AMEN!

  7. Rowena

Oh dang, I pressed post comment before I was ready, hmmm, maybe you shouldn’t get it (Love, Rosie) then…LOL. They dont’ wait until their 60’s though, but it was a long time before they got it right!
